2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Who are Everton?
In case you don't watch them, Keane did okay in two games that were dead rubbers for us. And if you'd taken the time to read the forums of both teams involved. The common thread was that neither of them turned up on the day🙄
Now if you are talking about Keane's performance in high pressure situations,I give you City at home as his last stellar contribution, but there's plenty of other examples over the years.
Why is it when we do something good, it’s that they didn’t turn up, rather than we were good and didn’t allow them to?

They say they didn’t turn up because they expected us to be walkovers like we were under Dyche and Lampard and Benitez and they are embarrassed that we showed them up.

Being outplayed doesn’t mean they haven’t turned up just because some of their own fans said so.

Reminds me somehow of this clip that popped up of an Arsenal supporter making excuses about the rain hurting them. The host said, “Mate, it’s raining for the other team, too. What are you talking about?”

Every single one is better than Michael Keane. A brick on a rope swinging from a pole is better than Michael Keane.

You yourself compared him with Wout Faes, the worst defender to play in the PL since Cuco Martina, earlier this summer.

Literally this. If the best CB we’ve got in the academy can’t possibly ever be better than Michael Keane then he may as well pack it in now. If he could be better than that extremely low bar then I’d rather see him in the squad than Keane. There’s also the entirety of world football we could have looked at for a player who could actually challenge the starting pair, could perhaps cover full back or defensive midfield, and god forbid might actually increase in value. But no, Michael Keane is the answer, doesn’t matter how much of a known failure he is, he is the answer.

Played pretty well in the last few games of last season to be fair. I think it’s a smart move as he’s a good pro, decent cover and a genuine set piece threat (or threat from 30 yards after that spurs goal)

Edit: His goal at 1:30 on this video from last season against Ipswich is a joke of a finish for even a top striker on their weaker foot, let alone a centre back

So you are upset that Keane could be playing (likely not though), whilst simultaneously suggesting you would want someone who is currently worse than him in the squad instead because in 2/3 years they may or may not be better than Keane? But right now are definitely worse.

We could go out and buy someone to challenge the starting positions, but that would cost what? £30m? 40m? More? When realistically, JOB is the future starter coming in to replace Tarks as starter. We have one of the best defences in the league, and one of the worst attacks. That £30m is much better used in attack. Surely you can see that?

I don’t know how you are rating Keane at all. It really wouldn’t be hard to get someone better than him. 30-40 mill for someone who could cover a few positions in the defence and be better than Michael Keane, that’s ridiculous. Tarkwoski was a free and went straight into the starting line up. Branthwaite cost a couple of mill. Even OBrien was half of that fee. You telling me there’s not a young CB out there in the championship, SPL, or abroad, who might be near the end of their contract available for a affordable fee and wouldn’t jump at joining Everton?

I can put up with mistakes from young players if they’re improving, we saw them from Branthwaite when he started. We’ve had years and years of mistakes from Keane, he’s not going to get any better, there’s no point persisting in him.

I honestly can’t believe the defence he’s receiving on here, are we talking about the same player, he’s stolen a living for 8 years here!

The thing the winds me up more than his lack of pace and his turning circle a WWI tank would be embarrassed with is that a defender his age should be seen as a leader and not a meek teenager . Maybe we have been blessed far too much in that department in the past .

When - and it will happen - he capitulates in September / October and an otherwise bright start to the season gets obliterated by this human jellyfish, we were warned. We have seen this movie before.

He always finds his way back into the team, always. Doesn’t matter how many players are ahead of him, eventually he turns back up like a wrecking ball ready to torpedo another manager.
