2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

As a comparison of the 4th/5th choice CB at other mid-table sides (not direct as some play 3 at the back):

Bournemouth = James Hill (never heard of him in my life)
Brighton = Igor (crocked) or Eiran Cashin
Brentford = Ben Mee
Crystal Palace = Chadi Riad or Jefferson Lerma
Fulham = Jorge Cuenca (never heard of him in my life)
West Ham = Kaelen Casey (never heard of him in my life) or a full back like Aaron Cresswell
Wolves = Willy Boly

You're just making stuff up to be annoyed at.

Cracking set of players!

Every single one is better than Michael Keane. A brick on a rope swinging from a pole is better than Michael Keane.

You yourself compared him with Wout Faes, the worst defender to play in the PL since Cuco Martina, earlier this summer.

How would either of us know this if Casey has only had 2 minutes of PL football? :lol: Casey, as much as we know, fits firmly in the untested youth category.

Not sure if I compared him to Faes? I definitely laughed at him playing WITH Faes. True.

The premise of my argument in it's essence is to ask our fans what exactly they expect for 4th choice? @Giraffe_Baker's post has highlighted just what we're contending with around mid-table.

My point was that Keane is terrible. We all know he's terrible. You have joked about how terrible he is. He's on £80k a week. Are any of the 4th choice CBs in @Giraffe_Baker 's list on £80k a week? Maybe Boly, but none of the others are. Yet I keep hearing how cheap Keane is, and how re-signing him allows us to spend an extra 4 or 5 million on a RW. He's not cheap, he's £4m a season for a liability. Retaining him doesn't free up millions of pounds for other positions. Those arguments hold no water.

I'm by no means a fan of Keane, but I'd still take him above all of the players on the GB's list. You've got a point about £80k per week being too much, I can't argue there. I honestly haven't seen that figure so it's disappointing if true.

I think the above list puts into perspective the quality thats generally available at back up center half in the league As a defensive group we have as good as any outside of maybe four teams in the league, we do need a couple of back up fullbacks.
I don't think we are accepting mediocrity signing Keane i think we are being realistic about the quality available for that position.

I believe he is also getting a signing on fee—— he’s a very, very lucky 4th. choice centre back !

That kind of brutal logic will hold no water round these parts mate.

Bored of the copium being passed around at the min.

Bottom line is everyone knows Keane is mince and should have been hoofed once his contract expired.
