2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

So you'd honestly rather put a youngster from the academy/Brazil in the firing line? Look at the pelters the likes of Kenny have got from sections of our support when the likes of Unsworth was playing the kids. Even Gordon was criticised and he's gone on to win a pot now. There’s just no winning sometimes I feel. JOB's treatment has been a rarity in my view. I'd hate to think how differently things would have gone for him had he made one mistake. Imagine all the "I told you so" conjecture?

I'm not a Keane advocate by any means, mate, but I just feel a dose of realism is needed. 4th choice CB is not historically a position to worry about, especially with no Europe. Look at the RS, they've just won the league, do you know who their 4th choice is? Joe bloody Gomez. I'm pretty sure Arsenal's is a Polish lad called Kiwior.
Yes I would, I’ve consistently said this for years.

I hear the justified groans when people see Keane on the bench, coming on or in the starting 11. They know what we’re are going to get from Keane a a defensive horror show.

I don’t think we need his experience in the team, even at 4th choice.

We ship goals and points when he plays, every member of the defence performs worse when he’s there, so why not try a youngster or look for an alternative?

I don’t need your dose of realism, the reality is what I have described above.

You are describing accepting mediocrity.

And yet you defended Patto to the hilt.

A below mediocrity fullback.

Or does he need " ANOTHER " chance under a new manager for us?
Your comparing apples and pears but crack on.

I defended Patterson as he’s much younger and was treated poorly by the previous manager, and had some bad luck with injuries. Ialso think he still has potential, in the right system, but if his days are numbered here, then so be it, and prob for the best for both him and us now.

Id like to think we will sign an alternative new better rb, just as I hoped we sign an alternative better cb to Keane.

Alright, then, let's hope we sign 18 year-old Douglas from Santos and see what happens when he's required to play ;)

Horror shows are horror shows at the end of the day. I'm struggling to fathom why some folks would accept one (or several) from an 18 year-old but heaven help Keane if it's him. I've seen countless times how unforgiving our support can be for youth.

I'm genuinely not accepting mediocrity, just a realist who accepts that 4th choice by nature isn't a rolls royce CB like Branthwaite. 4th choice by it's nature has flaws, that's why it accepts it's place as 4th choice!

Of all the positions we have to fill in the squad this summer, fourth choice CB is the least important. Can't understand why people are bothered about this signing.

Keeeeeeaaannno!
You obviously have the right to ignore that it just takes one injury and a red card to have him on the pitch. The fact that Tarkowski and Branthwaite ended the season holding their hamstrings...

How often is this going to occur, though? I accept the fact it can, but we're not in the position as a club to go around with 4 fantastic CBs. Not even City can afford that luxury. That Uzbek fella looks like a deer in the headlights every time I've seen him.

There's risks to the game and 4th choice is one of those areas.

As I said in an earlier post. A younger player who could fill the CD position and DM would have got plenty of game time over the season, not just been a squad filler and bench warmer. This contract just shows our new owners aren't interested in moving us forward. While the rest of the Prem are improving we are treading water. No ambition.

Exactly this.

I hoped we’d be moving on from the likes of Keane this summer, even though it was unrealistic to think we’d let every out-of-contract player go because that’s just too big an overhaul in one window.

It’s a massive comedown after the excitement of new owners, new manager, new stadium. If he’s the best we can get for 4th choice, it’s not good enough.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

After signing his new contract, Keane told evertonfc.com: “I love Everton and have been massively proud to play for this club since the day I joined so I’m delighted to extend my stay here.”

And we love you too Micheal x

I'd love this as much as you, but I can also reason why it probably won't happen. We had one of the best defences in the league last season, why bring in a signing that plays those positions - for undoubtedly big money - when it's other areas of the pitch we need to focus on? The budget isn't unlimited and certain areas definitely are a priority for us. I don't feel like a versatile defensive youngster is really what our focus should be this window. Any DM we get needs to be a "seasoned" type to fill in for Gana when it's AFCON in my opinion.

The window is still young so let's not rule out ambition. Maybe the Keane extension will allow for that elsewhere? Feel free to put me in my place if nothing materialises at somewhere like RW for example.

Maybe some people think Keane has some potential. Like David Moyes must certainly do.

I'm not ignoring that, I'm aware of it. It happened at the back end of the season and we did well with Keane in the team. Don't you watch Everton?

Who are Everton?
In case you don't watch them, Keane did okay in two games that were dead rubbers for us. And if you'd taken the time to read the forums of both teams involved. The common thread was that neither of them turned up on the day🙄
Now if you are talking about Keane's performance in high pressure situations,I give you City at home as his last stellar contribution, but there's plenty of other examples over the years.

I'm not one for vaulting,we all want the best for our club, but taking the lazy option doesn't fill me with confidence. I'd love to be vaulted if Keane comes in and replicates the Fulham and Newcastle performances. Thing is we've seen him far too often over getting close to a decade that he is more likely to sow panic in the rest of the back line.

As a comparison of the 4th/5th choice CB at other mid-table sides (not direct as some play 3 at the back):

Bournemouth = James Hill (never heard of him in my life)
Brighton = Igor (crocked) or Eiran Cashin
Brentford = Ben Mee
Crystal Palace = Chadi Riad or Jefferson Lerma
Fulham = Jorge Cuenca (never heard of him in my life)
West Ham = Kaelen Casey (never heard of him in my life) or a full back like Aaron Cresswell
Wolves = Willy Boly

You're just making stuff up to be annoyed at.
