We've got a new guy in accounts who rocks up in an 80's fit suit for no reason, he is straight from management books. He asks how your weekend is, and if someone says 'not much' he presses to ask what you did even more. If he is on a work call (very loud), and his mobile rings, he picks it up to say he is on a work call

Needless to say, I'm a big fan so far as he is really riling others

I’ve been self employed since I was 21 so over 30 years. I feel sorry for anyone who works for someone else and has to put up with all this. Seriously why are you working to profit someone else out of your labour? Is it because you don’t think you’re capable of doing it yourself? Answer is you probably are quite capable.

When I worked at HMV on Grafton st in Dublin, about 25yr ago now we used to take on loads of seasonal staff at summer then again at Xmas.

One time we had somebody who wrote Fxxk HMV in faeces on the wall, and everybody suspected this one dude. The manager stood up at a team meeting and said if he finds out who Poocasso he'll be out the door. The guy didn't come back next day, so was deffo him.

I wonder how his art career is going now

I used to work for HMV, about 30 years ago.

My former manager is one of those aforementioned who I wouldn't cross the road to piss on if he was on fire. An absolute worm.

Yeah the worst manager I ever had was in HMV. Spent 7yrs working in 3 different stores and the 6mths or so with that gombeen was the worst part.

My last place a girl reported a WhatsApp group I was in for inappropriate behaviour. Said all sorts of stuff which was all a load of rubbish about a group she wasn’t in. The group was literally for a few of us who lived close to each other to organise stuff to do outside of work and was rarely actually posted in.

Anyway management lost their minds, emails to all staff were sent, big threats were made “investigations” started, any bloke was getting sideways looks, rumours and tension abound. I got knobbled by management as some sort of ringleader (I wasn’t even a group admin). We all offered to show them the group messages because there was nothing to hide but they didn’t want to know.

Anyway all came out that she had heard something from someone who heard something from someone who heard something etc and none of it even pertained to our work place or even the decade we were in. It all quietly disappeared with no apology for us, no disciplinary for the person who made it up and nobody ever attended a work social or Christmas party ever again.

What had she been caught doing, or not doing, that meant she had to throw you under the bus asap to keep her spot safe?

Oh she was always one who was quite grabby and “dominant” towards younger female members of staff outside of work but that was never looked into or seen as a problem.

Nah I left a few months later citing among other things a toxic work atmosphere
