2FA issue

I'm having an issue when trying to log in with 2 factor authentication. It says there's a problem with the authenticator code and can't log me in.

I've found that if I leave the code for a bit so it is "old" (I.e. the authenticator has already generated 2 or 3 newer codes) it logs me in fine.

The only thing I can think is that because the code is being generated on my phone locally, it is taking a while for your servers to catch up, but have you ever seen something like this before?

I also had this issue last week, I had to switch to passkeys in the end to be able to log in.

Very strange.
I have seen this, but not related to GOT

Difference between the time protocols (NTP) on the server and your device, i.e. you might be running a minute or a minute and a half ahead (TOTP has tolerance built in usually but it depends on what application, etc.) of the server, causing this issue.

Have you tried syncing your device's time and date and trying the 2FA again?

Time drift between devices (which generates the code) and the server running this forum (which verifies it) is a fairly common issue with 2FA, but if it was server side on a forum this size, it would be commonly reported. I've checked and our server clock is correct.

Check you sync phone’s time automatically, should be something like;

On Android:
Settings → System → Date & time → Turn on "Use network-provided time"

On iPhone:
Settings → General → Date & Time → Turn on "Set Automatically"

Checked and it is already syncing the time, so not sure what's going on.

Are you using mobile data or are you connected using WiFi/Ethernet? Might be a issue with your router/network time sync. Is it only on GOT that you have the issue?

You could also search for system updates on your device and reboot. Sometimes resolves any sort of sync problems.

Try and reset your router. As Dan says if it was a GOT issue or Cloudflare in general there'd be issues all over the shop.
Tried restarting router and phone. Reset the authenticator app and set up 2fa on this site again. I've also tried different browsers. Same issue. All other sites which I use 2fa on work fine.

Not the end of the world as I'll just have to remember to wait for a minute or so before clicking log in.

Only other thing I can think of would be to clear the cache and cookies on your browser.

Click the 3 dots

Then clear cache and cookies

We also offer Passkeys so you can jib 2FA and use that instead?
