Boro away in the late 80’s created a similar memory
99% of parents at their kids rugby league games here. Making it more about themselves and their agendas trying to get their kids into the representative squads.

Was pretty good at all running distances but we had a kid I’m by year who ran for England so I never got any attention or coaching from the teachers who couldn’t see anybody with a bit of talent and work ethic past him so I moved on to wine, weed and women.
Just British state schooling isn’t it? If you’re the genetic freak athlete who’s entire family were involved in GB running had outside coaching etc they couldn’t get enough of you at the expense of everybody else with a sliver of potential. This is still very common in running by all accounts.
Seems to be down to a lot of the coaches being decent runners as youngsters, but never cut the grade and now live their lives through the " star " kid runner.
How've I been quoted here?Just British state schooling isn’t it? If you’re the genetic freak athlete who’s entire family were involved in GB running had outside coaching etc they couldn’t get enough of you at the expense of everybody else with a sliver of potential.
If you weren’t “gifted and talented” they didn’t give a toss about you in the rest of the lessons.
