We are in a weird situation where £13 mil is too much to gamble on a young swiss league star but ok to gamble £30 mil on the same young french league star. It makes the chermiti deal look even weirder tbh
I would guess that we have paid relatively little money for Chermiti so far.
I hope he does go out on loan, stays fit and then we will be able to see what kind of player he is.

Villarreal is in Spain isn’t it?
Exactly, it makes the chermiti deal look even stranger
Not really. People saying we should make these deals before they become £30m. So arguing we should have signed him a year ago. The issue then, like Chermiti, is can he get the experience within our team?

Do you think if we signed Barry a year ago, he develops in the same way? Would he have had the same amount of football for us as he was able to get at Villarreal?

I doubt it. Would Chermiti have developed better staying where he was for another year? I’d say probably.

We will get more misses than hit by signing them before their real breakout season. But it’s a balance of risk. Barry is more likely to work out despite costing more because he has been able to regularly play at a decent level.

…..how the deal is structured isn’t a good deal if we acquire a player who isn’t good enough. Hopefully we finally find out about Chermiti next season.
But no ones knows if a player that costs £15m ant that age is good enough. It’s a gamble. Some have picked better than others. We’ve actually done pretty well in the last 10 years with Stones, Richie, Onana and Branthewaite. It’s the older more established players on big wages that have screwed us. Bolasie, Siggy, Doucoure, Walcott, Tosun, Mina, Gomes.
