Glastonbury 2025

Autotune wasn't the problem with Charli XCX's set, weirdly, given that's what the usual suspects seem to be wailing and gnashing their teeth about. It just seemed low effort and lazy. And short.

Welcome back, BTW.

I think a lot to do with the points you mentioned may be the fact it was at a festival. When I saw her on the tour, it was 2 hours long, there were more of her songs (and suppose the the clubby ones, and she had a kind of climbing frame thing with different levels. I know a few who went and a lot avoided the main stages apart from seeing her, and they said she was the most fun they had - which is what counts

I think this sums her up well for me:

As for the autotune, I'm sure a lot of everyone favourite bands use it in lives sets a lot more than they think, they just use it how it is in intended, to level out vocals so it pretty much goes not noticed. Every artist that uses it as an instrument (Inc John Cale and Alan Sparhawk) are very clearly not using it to make sure they can sing properly are they. Also using it 'wrongly' live is meant to be really difficult with breathing etc. it's mad how it's been around for over 20 years and people still get wound up by it and/or don't understand it. Imagine when these people find out about Midi instruments, 20 years of shaking their fists at a Midi flute lol

Given the advanced studio methods the Beatles used at the time, I reckon they'd love autotune

And thanks

I don't think the argument that it was a festival really holds water, look what she did at Coachella, it was in a different league to her Glastonbury set. She just didn't really seem to sing much or anything, and seemed a bit lost on that huge stage by herself. Meh, just my thoughts, anyway. If the audience enjoyed it then who really cares?

Everyone uses autotune, and your right about those using it as an instrument not using it to cover up anything. If you don't like the way it sounds, don't listen to it 🤷‍♂️

Fair enough, I just had a look at Coachella and I don't think I realised how different it all was to Glastonbury. Bringing out other singers probably helped too

I haven't been to a big festival in ages but I tend to go and see 'fun' acts over the more serious ones when I do, feel there is less pressure that way/less chance of disappointment .

Neil Young probably fell victim to that this year. I listen to him, but would I want to see him at 10pm on a Saturday night with everything else on offer at Glastonbury? No

Every article I’ve seen praising OR for her set and performance (including NME) have been immediately followed by comments in the feed off sad pricks banging on about how the prodigy should have been on that stage.

Can’t these desperate little edgelords stuck in the 90’s in their adidas sambas just accept that both acts can actually be good?

It’s almost like they are trying too hard to let everyone know how mental they were “back in the day” 🙄🤮💤

Boring, boring scrotes.
