I don't think players dwell on the business side of a clubs profile as regards the accounts any more than I think the new stadium is no more than a nice to have and nothing else.

It's about the contract package and an idea of other players that we intend to go for and some idea of where the team will be over the coming years.

Our biggest issue is the big clubs mopping up talent and those players being content to be associated with glamour rather than playing regular football. The big wages are a given and some are happy to be cavalier about the amount of football they'll play.

I agree that this perception is prevalent at the moment, and that there is definitely a need to improve upon the tarnished reputation that has developed since the time Ancelotti left (2021), so four years ago. However, the reality is different from the perception, and that's what needs to be conveyed.

The reality:
Still a Premier League side.
Finished 22 points above relegation in 23/24
Finished 23 points above relegation in 24/25
Sanctioned oligarch is finito
New ownership is in place
Moving into a new stadium

I agree that the above doesn't make people instantly forget the last four years, but they are certainly valid counterpoints to the 'Everton are doomed' hysteria that is still prevalent amongst some.

Some people are acting as if Forest, Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford finishing in 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th somehow puts them into a different ball-park than Everton. I strongly disagree with this. I think we are already operating on the same level as these clubs, and that the aim is for us to promote ourselves into the category above them.

Moyes says it himself. He's setting a target of us qualifying for Europe this season. He isn't setting us the target of replicating the last two seasons with a mid-table finish that's 23 points above the relegation zone.

Good post.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Moyes on that, so much so, I bookmarked it! Here is is;

As he alludes to about being too old to skirt around the sides - perhaps he figures this is his last job at a Prem club and doesn't need to constantly manage and downplay expectations/protect and promote himself. Maybe now, for the first time ever, he can throw caution to the wind. What has he got to lose?

Because that was my biggest issue with Moyes - at every club he downplays expectations, I hope he continues with Moyes MKII. We have to find some confidence/arrogance this summer, and the stadium/new owners gives us a real change to move away from a basketcase, circus of a club with Lampard, Benitez, Dyche, Allardyce level.

I get the feeling from him that he's determined to achieve what he couldn't first time round. He has a strut and swagger to him and it is showing in results already. The man is destined to win us a trophy! COYB

Im not sure I agree hes "destined" to win us a trophy, but I certainly agree hes determined. I think he views this is a big opportunity to finally show his full capability. His first time here he was under constant and heavy financial restraints, and now he sees a club that can buy all the players he wants/needs(within reason) over the next two summers. I think he is really optimistic on the kind of squad he can build, and what he can do with it.

Totally agree that the building the squad element will fuel his desire to succeed. Both him and the recruitment team will have a clearer picture than us of how he sees the squad developing in the upcoming 3/4 windows. Controversial decisions such as Keane's contract offer aside, at his age he won't want any messing about if it looks like promises from the owners will not likely be honoured.

True enough! That's just my annual preseason excessive optimism kicking in. It usual calms down by September
