Confirmed Signing Thierno Barry

If we sign Barry, we still desperately need another striker.

Barry, Beto and Chermiti is nowhere near enough for a team that wants to finish in the European places.

…in respect of central strikers, I think it immediately makes us stronger than last season. With Chermiti likely going on loan, it’s just a case of whether 2 will be enough, Sherif might be seen as 3rd striker.

If Sherif goes in to the season as 3rd choice then our transfer strategy has failed in my view. He is far from ready.

We had 4 strikers last season and at 1 point 3 of them were injured. Chermiti barely got a sniff and he is a lot further along than Sherif.

It’s why trying to keep DCL was a wise choice for the club as ultimately we now need to spend funds on another striker option.

I don't think we'll spend hard money on Barry and another player that can only play CF. We need to sign another Ndiaye type at RW, ideally. Someone who can play CF in emergencies but is fundamentally our RW. The issue is the links are very limited when it comes to players of that type. Weah from Juventus has popped up, but that's about it.

…..I’d say Barry/Beto leaves us stronger than Beto/DCL. We largely managed with two last season. Agree on DCL, but the club seem to held firm on not budging on their offer, especially with his injury record.

Both Chermiti and Sherif have had injury woes, no idea of plans for Sherif but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he’s seen as having potential. Saying that, Moyes might want 2 striker acquisitions but we will at least be stronger if Barry signs.

Francis Okoronkwo is back from loan and is the only U21 forward listed with a squad number. I reckon he's closer to the first team than Sherif now, and could make the squad against Accrington Stanley.

….bit disappointing getting up to read he’s looking out of his window in the direction of the Caribbean rather than the Mersey. Some well meaning detective work but the Air France flight he caught was actually taking him further away.

Still, at least no rumours at this point suggesting the transfer isn’t going to happen.

Moyes is in Miami watching the Club World Cup, though, Eggs!

It would be nice to have 3x real options wouldn't it. To be fair though, for large parts of last season we only had 1 option, and we ended up scoring a few the second half of the season. It's one of them, ideally we'd have 3 but I think we'd get by with 2. Certainly if we added a decent attacking right wing to the mix. Maybe the third striker option might come later in the re-build, be that January (if the right options are available) or next summer.

I agree, we are definitely stronger if he signs. But we need depth. It will likely be a loan deal I imagine, I’m just hoping it’s not for some sort of project to rejuvenate someone like a Broja or a Ferguson.

If he was signing for Liverpool he’d only be referred to by his first name and have it printed on his shirt, and if the surname was used in commentary it would have a ridiculously over exaggerated French or Spanish pronunciation added. As it’s Everton though it will just be pronounced Barry as English as possible.
