I think some people really do fail to appreciate how far we’d fallen. It’s not just a case of new owners, new stadium, and then players flock to us. The name ‘Everton’ has for ages now been synonymous with terrible football, bad administration, short-term thinking, relegation battles, etc… in short, not attractive.

We can’t expect our name to carry weight just… ‘because’. So low have we sunk that we must earn reputation again.

Let me just say though isn't this why we brought this new transfer squad/ system in ? We were told that the psr situation was better than previous years, there was a war chest available and a brand new state of the art stadium to entice them Thelwell had none of this. It's early days and I won't judge them until the end of the transfer window and I sincerely hope we are all very pleased with the outcome. Really looking forward to the new season, more than for years, we have gotten our new season tickets after years away, so c'mon Hammond and Co make us happy. COYB.

Our PSR situation won't be improved fully until this time next year when BMD has had a full years income stream behind it.

He seemed up for it until Fulham improved their offer of a new deal, so as with all footballers cash makes the difference.

That’ll definitely be a major part in his decision but if salaries are similar then it’s hardly a ridiculous decision for him to stay where he is

Isn't the Sponsor money in advance though, plus the wage bill must have dropped, it's not all sweetness and light, but a fair bit better than previous years, when we were selling players to buy or in some cases to make profit.

To get the full benefit of sponsor money they would date it starting today July 1st.

Useless if it is in last years financial year.

I agree that this perception is prevalent at the moment, and that there is definitely a need to improve upon the tarnished reputation that has developed since the time Ancelotti left (2021), so four years ago. However, the reality is different from the perception, and that's what needs to be conveyed.

The reality:
Still a Premier League side.
Finished 22 points above relegation in 23/24
Finished 23 points above relegation in 24/25
Sanctioned oligarch is finito
New ownership is in place
Moving into a new stadium

I agree that the above doesn't make people instantly forget the last four years, but they are certainly valid counterpoints to the 'Everton are doomed' hysteria that is still prevalent amongst some.

Some people are acting as if Forest, Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford finishing in 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th somehow puts them into a different ball-park than Everton. I strongly disagree with this. I think we are already operating on the same level as these clubs, and that the aim is for us to promote ourselves into the category above them.

Moyes says it himself. He's setting a target of us qualifying for Europe this season. He isn't setting us the target of replicating the last two seasons with a mid-table finish that's 23 points above the relegation zone.

Definitely saves him having to up sticks and relocate to the other end of the country and having to deal with all the stress that comes with doing that. And that`s the same with every transfer in football. I just wish for once a player would come out and say it like it is and not come out with all the usual catch phrases that they come up with about them loving the club too much to leave and kissing the badge, when you really know that as soon as the going gets tough and another better offer is dangled in front of them, they are n`t in the right frame of mind to play. That lad Guyorkes at the moment sums up the modern player, under contract to a club, telling the club he ain`t playing for them anymore, just to get a better move.

When the first point in 'The reality' is "Still a premier league side", that shows how little we have to offer.

This summer will still be seen as a risk for some players joining. There are the green shoots of recovery in place with an awesome new stadium and hopefully competent owners, but I'd expect with progress over the next 1-2 seasons we may see the Everton name becoming a draw again next summer or the one after.

To be honest mate, I think the notion of a club's history having anything to do with transfer targets' decision making is well outdated. Of course, if there's a choice between us and a "big name" we'll likely lose out, but that would happen had we finished 8th just as easily.

These days when a player hears a PL club is in for them, they're off. That's why we've seen so many players leaving European clubs playing in EL/CL to join no-mark mid-table or lower teams in the PL. We're over the worst of our financial worries and we can afford to pay some of the silly wages that get players over here. We'll get a good few players in, this Summer.

If people are arguing that we are some way off being able to compete with the recently relegated Villa and Newcastle for the signatures of attractive players, then I can agree with them, but I hold the opinion that we will soon mirror their recent transformation from relegation threatened nobodies to highly attractive suitors in just 12 months, not 12 years!

If people are arguing that we can't compete with the likes of Forest, Brighton, Bournemouth and West Ham, then I completely disagree. I think we are already operating at the same crap level as they are, and they don't have any of the upsides that I have referred to, apart from being a Premier League football club.

Two of the claims were about finishing a certain number of points about relegation in the last two seasons. Brighton and Bournemouth finished even further outside of relegation in both of those seasons, and West Ham and Forest once each. So all those clubs pretty much tick those boxes too.

It's true that no one else can claim to have gotten rid of a sanctioned oligarch, but the fact we have hardly puts us above clubs who never had links with one in the first place.

You could also argue that more stable ownership is possibly better than our new ownership (time will tell on that one).

So, out of your six points...
Still a Premier League side - applies to all four of the clubs you mention
Finished 22 points above relegation in 23/24 - applies to three of the clubs you mention
Finished 23 points above relegation in 24/25 - applies to three of the clubs you mention
Sanctioned oligarch is finito - the lack of a sanctioned oligarch in the first place is probably better than removing links to one
New ownership is in place - potential to be good
Moving into a new stadium - a major draw

I'm not saying we can't compete with the likes of West Ham, Forest, Bournemouth, and Brighton - I'm just saying that the stadium is currently the only thing that puts us ahead of them. I'd love us to be as attractive as Newcastle or Villa in 12 months. I doubt we'll quite bridge that gap in that short a time frame, but I hope we get there and surpass them before too long.

We are agreeing on a lot here. You're agreeing that the clubs mentioned are operating on the same crap level that we recently have been. The difference is that Brighton and Fulham are having the time of their lives, whereas we have just been discharged from hospital following an episode of ill health.

I expect the duration of our rehab to be similar to that of Villa and Newcastle. I think Moyes will be successful with his target of qualifying for Europe this season.
