2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

I feel signing a traffic cone to one year deal would be more effective and prudent than signing keane
How old is this traffic cone?
What is its xG?
What is its injury record like?

Seriously though, I bet his Agent is just using us to get the Cone a better deal at Sunderland/West Ham/Southampton.

People in favour of renewing him to be our fourth-choice aren't factoring in the fact that HE'S ABSOLUTELY CRAP.

Enough of this nonsense, if Dyche were still manager and was wanting to give him a new deal they'd be uproar, and rightly so. Punt him and let him be someone's problem finally.
Dyche would want to start him.
Moyes won't
Not bothered either way but Moyes wanting Keane is as predictable as night following day.

Buying in a 4th choice CB is hard, how do you even sell that to a player ? Keane is cheap and professional, So I get the sentiment from the club. Be really surprised if he stays though, The chance to dance with Dyche "on the grarss" in the championship would be more attractive to him, especially as Dyche will play him every game.

Its clear that Keane wasnt really part of plans, but we've shifted to him once we realised that we wouldn't be getting Tete.

It means shifting O'Brien back out wide.

You cant replace 12 outgoings in one window. It's hopefully a short term fix And he'll make a handful of appearances at tops.

….whether it’s Tete or not, i’d imagine the plan is to still acquire a RB. Tarkowski’s injury would be a concern for me, so I can see O’Brien being utilised plenty at CB.

I imagine so, but im sure the process well he diligent and the conversation will be whether Keane is considered a better option as backup CB, than what's available as a right back.

We've had plentiful of full backs over recent times, and theyve not been fantastic.

…seems a general acceptance now that Patterson is simply not good enough, amazing we’ve had to make do in a position you’d think would be relatively straightforward and inexpensive to fill.

Hopefully this new regime will finally address the issue.

I think with Patterson, hes had various managers who've not fancied him.

Sometimes you're not everyone's cup of tea, but not when its 4 managers. Clearly someone is amiss. Lost all his momentum when he got injured for Scotland a few years ago.

Fully confident in TFG. They'll improve us tenfold for me, and are already showing positive signs, but I always think its easier said than done getting quality replacements or everyone would be doing it. Our position is slightly different in ghe fact we have plenty of holes to fill and im sure the management team have a preference for where our budget is spent.

Is he though?

He plays eight games, we lose six and draw 2, we finish 4/5 places lower on the table than we would have if a proper CB had played.

Is he still cheap?

There's a difference between a team collectively losing you points and an individual literally gifting goals to the opposition, though, isn't there? You can point to multiple specific occasions with Keane where he has turned wins into draws, draws into losses and sometimes even wins into losses. Of course we'll drop points, even the ridiculous Man City teams dropped points, but to willfully keep a player that you know will personally and individually be the specific cause of dropped points makes zero sense to me.

Some players in a squad with the resources we have will be a bit rubbish, we all know that and can live with it (except immediately after a disappointing result). Keane isn't a bit rubbish, he's a bin fire. He makes everyone around him worse. Get shut.
You clearly don't like or rate him, and it's all about opinions.
Personally, whilst he's not what we need in the first 11 if we want to progress, I'd still 100% have him as 3rd/4th choice CB above either a kid from the rezzies, a journeyman like Craig Dawson or a complete unknown from wherever. Of course, any deal he get's or is offered will be on significantly reduced terms and he doesn't need to be bedded in or otherwise. We have much bigger priorities this window than a 3rd/4th choice CB.
Ultimately, our view is irrelevant. It's down to Moyes and the recruitment team who we retain and bring in, and we have zero influence on that.
It looks like Leicester and Dyche might save people the angst of 'will he, won't he' with Big Mick Kegger anyhow.
I'll wish him the very best wherever he ends up as, irrespective of his consistency or quality which is subjective, he's never shyed away from a game unlike another who recently departed having run down a contract for his own gain.

Just give him another year on reduced wages if he is happy with that. 3rd or 4th choice backup is useful and we can bring him on up front now and again to score the odd worldie.

You should post more just so we can admire your avatar.
Fine rearguard.
