2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

I don't think anyone is saying he's far and away the best possible 4th centre half choice for any club in the world though are they, so that's a bit disingenuous. We offered contracts to Young, Doucoure, DCL etc and the list of people we're supposedly interested in for right back (a position a lot of people have seen as an area we need to improve as a priority) are all free transfers. Reading between the lines, we just don't have a lot of money to spend, and they believe resigning Keane is at least as good an option as signing someone like him on a free. It's a long way from ideal, but realistic it's always looked like something that might happen, and for fairly obvious reasons.
I've been saying for months we won't have loads to spend. But bad players are bad players. We should get rid of them and their enormous wages when we have the opportunity. If Michael Keane is part of our squad there is a very good chance that he will play games for us. History shows us that that goes poorly a lot more frequently than it goes well.

I don't disagree at all mate, I've been wanting him legged for years. I'm also aware that i'd very probably feel exactly the same about Willy Boly or Ben Mee or Issa Diop if they were here too though, that's all. There's no denying that if we have to rely on him to play a run of games then there'll be times where it goes badly, but the same is going to be true of any bog standard freebie that's happy to come here and be 4th choice too, it's that simple for me. I don't want Keane to stay, I just don't think it's necessarily the case that the realistic alternative would be any better when it comes to it.

Obsession with what? How terrible Michael Keane is? I will never let that go. Unlike you, who apparently thinks he has improved in the past three years. If he's going to be 5th choice, see your quote above, who is fourth choice?
OBSESSED!

Mate, I clearly stated 4th or 5th choice - we have NO idea who is coming in (or staying for that matter...)

The richest club in the world had Scot Carson on their bench last year cos Pep knows that sometimes there is a limit to how many players are willing to sit on your bench for a whole season.

He is terrible, we know that, he then pulls out two very good games - Eff knows what sort of Rio ferdinand you expect to rock up and play zero minutes on a reduced wage next season - would be interested to know

Honestly, this country

I still don't know what I'm supposed to be obsessed with, but OK.

A third choice GK almost never plays. A fourth choice, not fifth choice, God only knows where you got that from, CB will play several games a season, they are not comparable. There is only one GK on a pitch whereas there are two CBs so fourth choice CBs are closer to playing than a third choice keeper.

As for suggesting that I want a Rio Ferdinand level player as fourth choice, that is just silly. But you knew that when you wrote it.

I won't be surprised at all if he stays. I just won't be in here saying it's a good, or even acceptable, thing.

Do you ever look in the mirror and have twenty minute row, spouting nonsense just hoping your reflection gets bored??

I don't mind him staying for a year because we have limited money and a serious need to prioritise attacking positions. Plus it'll probably be hard to pick up a centre half happy to be fourth choice.. and we do need four centre halves.

If he's given a two-year deal though it's absolutely mad.

Ooh. No more actual arguments to raise, so you've resorted to name calling? That was fast, NNA? It's hot outside, though, so I'll forgive you for being a bit tetchy. Let's get it back on topic, Michael Keane should never play for us again, do you agree? He's rubbish, isn't he? You used to think so.

You 100% keep him as 4th choice if you’re on a budget,
What’s the point in potentially missing out on players who you need, due to spending money unnecessarily on another centre half who will hardly play.
Dose of the real world I’m afraid.
Maybe show the youngsters there's a actual route to the Prem squad? Re-signing Keane just sends the wrong message to any talented young players.
