2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

It's not always been a meh, though. Why the change of heart? We're still only an injury or two away from Michael Keane.

Which can completely derail any type of progress we may be making as a team.

He’s a walking bomb scare on the pitch, surely there must be better ageing centre halves out there looking for a club ???

It’s a long time since we’ve had one player who is such an utter liability.

Unfortunately this is still probably true, as it is for the everyone bar the SKY 4. You could have linked it properly so people could see the whole context like, but whatever, top level spread sheeting there, and not a little disingenuous from your position like. You could have referred to the next post down of mine, for a bit of balance like...

You say it's true of everyone but the top 4 but the reason we're still an option for Keane is presumably at least in part because he's not inundated with offers from the other 15 clubs in the division. He's out of contract so anyone, us included, would only be on the hook for a signing on fee and wages. If he's a decent enough option, as you are now seemingly suggesting, why isn't he a good fourth choice option for the host of other teams in the division looking for backup centre halves? If he's still negotiating with us he hasn't accepted an offer elsewhere.

He's rubbish, we should let him go.

When he goes eventually, are we going to need another fourth choice centre back. Who will that be.

I just don’t think it’s a good move keeping him on, for every solid performance or a good goal there’s an outnumbering list of bad performances and mistakes .

I know everything can’t be sorted in one summer, it’s just underwhelming to see the stenches of the past remaining if he does stay.

Part of our problem is we constantly play catch up with ourselves long term by making “that will do for now” decisions
I think it may be down to finances mate. He hasn't been very good at all for a long time. That said we have not been good as a team, so one could argue under Ancelotti (for example) he was a much better player.

Long story short he'll be 4th choice.

I don't think he's that good mate, but I think we need to be pragmatic. The manager and recruitment team have gaps to fill, and a finite amount of money with which to do it. He did ok at the back end, and did well under CA, outside from that, we've been crap as a team. He's 4th choice, that's that. It's like arguing how good the 3rd/4th choice keeper is, it's a moot point as of now. If (BIG IF) he does get called in to do a job one must trust that the (new) management will have him ready.

I don't think anyone is saying he's far and away the best possible 4th centre half choice for any club in the world though are they, so that's a bit disingenuous. We offered contracts to Young, Doucoure, DCL etc and the list of people we're supposedly interested in for right back (a position a lot of people have seen as an area we need to improve as a priority) are all free transfers. Reading between the lines, we just don't have a lot of money to spend, and they believe resigning Keane is at least as good an option as signing someone like him on a free. It's a long way from ideal, but being realistic it's always looked like something that might happen, and for fairly obvious reasons.

lol!! 3 years ago when he had just played 32 games for us!! He is now going to be 4th/5th choice CB. I love your obsession btw!
Obsession with what? How terrible Michael Keane is? I will never let that go. Unlike you, who apparently thinks he has improved in the past three years. If he's going to be 5th choice, see your quote above, who is fourth choice?
