2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Player threads are always a joy. When someone half decent leaves us, either on a free or for a fee, the thread is dominated by posters saying how overrated and dreadful they are and/or that they are rats or snakes or whatever. Then when we are offering contracts to objectively terrible players like Keane many of the same posters are tying themselves in knots to let everyone know that this is somehow great news and shows that this is a new Everton behaving in a grown up pragmatic fashion.

Keane's rubbish, we all know he's rubbish because we've all seen him be rubbish loads of times, signing or retaining rubbish players is always a bad thing.

Can only think that moyes/board want to look to spend the bulk of the money for attackers and hence why we were/are looking at re-newing keanes contract and looking at likes of Tete.

Send him to Wrexham .....

….not sure I understand, Joey. His contract is up so we don’t ’send him’ anywhere.

The point here is whether he’s offered and accepts an extension to his current deal. If he doesn’t sign an extension, he’s free to go to any club who offer him a contract.

Then maybe they merely think that Keane is a decent shout as 4th place cb, given the current options available.

Why would we want good young players sitting on the bench? They're better off elsewhere getting experience ready to fill the gap when Tarky is finished or Branthwaite gets off.
This! It is quite simple really. Limited budget, lots of players needed, why blow it on a position we are reasonably Ok in?! Every penny saved on a CB is available for a forward or RW ETC...

Let me just quickly check the Michael Keane thread...

Why would we want a proven liability on the bench? He’s far outstayed his welcome here mate.
As you have previously admitted, recruitment is not your job and you don't know what other options are available. The people in recruitment I assume do know, and they possibly believe that he is our best option as 4th choice centre back.

It's a meh from me personally like.

It's not always been a meh, though. Why the change of heart? We're still only an injury or two away from Michael Keane.

His agent goes prem experinced/ex international should be hawking him round
I agree. But as we don't know who has offered what, if at all, it's a bit early to be questioning his ambition.

It could also be argued he should be trying to play at the highest level possible, and fighting for a place? Dropping down a league could also be seen as a lack of ambition.

Just saying like.

When he goes eventually, are we going to need another fourth choice centre back. Who will that be.

I just don’t think it’s a good move keeping him on, for every solid performance or a good goal there’s an outnumbering list of bad performances and mistakes .

I know everything can’t be sorted in one summer, it’s just underwhelming to see the stenches of the past remaining if he does stay.

Part of our problem is we constantly play catch up with ourselves long term by making “that will do for now” decisions
