2024/25 Seamus Coleman

Taking to his Instagram account, James Tarkowski shared an emphatic two-word reaction to the news on Coleman’s future.

Reposting the news to his Instagram story, Tarkowski captioned his post: ‘The Skipper’

....but what would Tarkowski know. 🙄
I don't think anybody is disputing that he's well liked and respected by his peers. He's just not a premier league player anymore.

…..ideal, he’s in the players domain which fits perfectly with what Moyes wants. I guarantee Moyes will be very happy with this situation especially during this period of significant change. It’ll be a weight off the managers mind.

Can’t understand why posters are in the least concerned about a playing or coaching contract, Coleman is being employed for a very valuable reason so just accept it and judge in 12 months. His role is significant.
Bothered because we’re giving out a contract worth about 10 times or more what he would get as a coach. Shouldn’t be playing either been done for quite some time and after breaking down before 20 minutes in the final game that should have been his farewell. Let’s say he’s getting 50k that’s about 2.5m a year what a complete waste of money and let’s hope it’s not more.

Again, this is not about being cut throat or nice. The manager has given him a clear role, he has defined it and stated what it was. That's the point.

I don't know you so I don't know what teams you've had experience with, but there's quite the difference between being a coach and being a peer. From his own view point, to how others see him, to what he is privy to inside the team and what's he's privy to from the staff.
Player or coach will not make a difference to how he’s thought of or the respect the lads have for him. He will be cheering from the side lines 90% of the time anyway or at least I hope he is. Different sport but similar situation, professional boxer retires gym mates are now coached by him and some managed by him respect level remained the same and maybe even went up because he’s went from being gym mate and setting standards to demanding them and getting it because he’s been there and done it. I must of missed the mentioned role what is it he’s been specifically designated to do?

He won the lottery signing for a team that are far too sentimental. Getting paid handsomely to kiss the badge and shout “come on!” in the changies, despite being crap for the last 5 years.
Bit harsh that, he's been a great servant and the best R/B in
30/40yrs. Yes he can no longer do it on the pitch but he doesn't deserve all the stick,we did the same with Cahill another great player. Everyone attached to the club has nothing but good to say about the man, and they know him alot better than we do. I for one want him around the club.

A bit like the DCL situation, there`s a lot of people frustrated more at how the club has handled the RB situation and its not a case of folks not appreciating the effort that he put in during his time here. The club failed to find a decent RB when he got his bad injury on ROI duty, but instead brought in a free transfer to cover until Seamus got back. He was never assured to be as good when he came back, but we got another couple of years out of him before injuries started to take their toll. It seems every time he went off to play for ROI he picked up an injury that made him miss a run of games for us which added to the frustration with him. Successful teams don`t hang onto players who can`t get fit to play and when they do are looking like their best days are long gone, but we do.

And you know this how?
Well he’s not playing for 20/30k per week is he? And even if he was it’s still a lot more than he’d be getting as a coach. My issue isn’t seamus staying at the club it’s him staying in a playing role if he even plays. Despite being down to limited numbers don’t tell me Seamus signing a new deal is good business 2 years ago id of said yes not now, fresh start yet the longest serving player remains as a player anyway that’s enough on that don’t want to be bashing Coleman anymore he’s been a great servant just over stayed in my opinion.

To be honest I really don't get why he has signed a 12 month playing contract, as he will probably be fit enough to play maybe 3 games, the games he does play in will the fans trust him? as I certainly won't because when he has played teams have targeted his side and will do again, as others have said he is finished at this level and has been for about 3 seasons.

The end of the day what he does in the changing rooms and behind the scenes Moyes must think he deserves a wage, but for me as a player it's a no
