….played for Liverpool Schoolboys with me and we both signed for RS at the same time. No idea how he got into flat horse racing but he’s done terrific, even led in a NH winner at Aintree. Nice fella, I’m sure I have plenty of pics and old programmes with the both of us on.

Didnt know about the horse stuff, I bet he gets some good tips.

Just to put you off even more, someone has created a Parma violet flavour gin. Enjoyed the sweets as a kid, but the gin - no thank you.

…I left school the year before after doing A-Levels. Went to sign-on and the girl behind the counter in the Dole asked if I was interested in working there for the summer holidays, I said yes. The manager interviewed me, offered me a job and I retired 41 years later.

Weird how a moment can change your life, especially given I met my future wife working there.

Eggs - similar... I was working for a carpet shop after being totally lost post college. Hated working saturdays and missing footy. Was taking a break in the tea room and read someone elses discarded newspaper, found an ad from Brittish Telecom looking for graduates. Ive now been in the Telecom business for 40 years.
