2024/25 Idrissa Gueye

? That the new rumour only one i have seen was about the length of the contract would just give him the two years isnt to crazy. If it was coleman i would be questioning it because of the lack of game time but has been a starter in moyes team. Would be shocked if lets him go
It’s just my opinion. He’d have signed already.

Looks every bit his 35 years of age??? what games are you watching, he's just played 40 games for us in a season, been our best outfield player, and gets about the pitch just as easily as he did 5-10 years ago.

His game doesn't even rely on pace. Even if he did slow down it wouldn't be affecting him too much.

The greater risk is not giving gana gueye a 2 year deal, its spending 40m on a instant replacement because you would struggle to get someone of his quality ready made.

Give him a new deal, sign a young player who has similar traits, that we can spend a season or two polishing up and getting ready for the PL as his replacement, like a club with brains would do.
He was clearly struggling this season when we played twice a week. Can't really blame him, as with the injury situation we had Harrison Armstong as the only alternative to Gueye, Doucoure and Mangale.

This was when the football under Dyche was at its worst. More defensive as ever. Because we had no legs in the midfield. While opponents did substitutions we had to stay 90 minutes with a midfield three running on empty.

Even with Moyes in and players back from injuries we did suffer for a while. We was very much a 60 minute team and ended many matches poorly. Moyes did sub him off early a few matches when he started fading.

Not sure what you mean with signing a player with similar traits as Gueye as clubs with brains would do. It has been years since clubs with brains have signed players with Gueye's skillset. Club's don't look for that player type and he'd struggle to get minutes in most Premier League teams.

That doesn't mean that he's not good or that we shouldn't sign him. I like him. But we should never try to replace him like for like.

I get the sentiment, but this is a guy who will be 36 years old in September. He has WC qualifying, AFCON and likely the WC sitting in front of him the next 12 months. A straight two-year deal seems ill-advised.
I would not saying should be a starter for all of it but definately could play a key role. Also gives us time build players up atmstrong

Again, as good as he was this season - and he was, even if I've never been a fan of his appalling passing - I'm really not attached to him at all. Pickford and Branthwaite, yes. Everyone else? Meh.

I can see the argument for keeping him for another year, not so much the argument for two.

You all realize he was our player of the season right? If he’s not quite at the same level he’s probably what, our third best player this go around? Then next season he starts taking a back seat but is still a key contributor? 2 years is a no brainer for me. He’s easily still that good.

I'd rather see him get a 2 year deal and have him as a bit part player in the 2nd season over losing him altogether. He'll still be a key player this season.. Age is against him and he will slow down but right now he's still good enough.

For those 2 CM places we need 4 players;

Iroegbunam: Needs a loan or sell

Garner: Should be a rotation option

Gana: He's got too many games ahead of him for his national team for 2 years. He could fall of a cliff any moment. I'd offer 1 year and also rotate him so his performances remain high level.

Armstrong: We'll see if he will be loaned or stay.

For me, we need to sign one starting midfielder, who would be our superstar. Also, another Armstrong 'type' with high potential to develop.

Gana cant be relied upon.
