2024/25 Idrissa Gueye

One year extension with club option for another year, would be a middle ground to the standoff.
Personally, whilst I understand the club want to move away from offering anymore than a 12 month rolling contract for players In their thirties, this is a unique situation of keeping the ship steady while adding a lot of new players.
If it has to be 2 year contract then I would do that in this instance.

I think we have to give him a two year contract, he is head and shoulders above anything we have in his role and while he is knocking on a bit he still does a good job for us. To get someone in as good as him would cost a lot of money which is better spent on fixing problems elsewhere. I will accept that the new ownership are a significant improvement on the last lot when they start making improvements, Moyes was a great start but let us see progress and not just promises. Start by fixing the problems we have and not problems we don’t currently have.

We just gave Coleman another year, so they are moving very slowly away from doing that. It makes perfect sense to offer him a two year deal as he at least stays fit enough to make a contribution on the pitch.

I get the sentiment, but this is a guy who will be 36 years old in September. He has WC qualifying, AFCON and likely the WC sitting in front of him the next 12 months. A straight two-year deal seems ill-advised.

Looks every bit his 35 years of age??? what games are you watching, he's just played 40 games for us in a season, been our best outfield player, and gets about the pitch just as easily as he did 5-10 years ago.

His game doesn't even rely on pace. Even if he did slow down it wouldn't be affecting him too much.

The greater risk is not giving gana gueye a 2 year deal, its spending 40m on a instant replacement because you would struggle to get someone of his quality ready made.

Give him a new deal, sign a young player who has similar traits, that we can spend a season or two polishing up and getting ready for the PL as his replacement, like a club with brains would do.

He’s not staying
? That the new rumour only one i have seen was about the length of the contract would just give him the two years isnt to crazy. If it was coleman i would be questioning it because of the lack of game time but has been a starter in moyes team. Would be shocked if lets him go
