2024/25 Seamus Coleman

Let us all agree that despite people thinking they do:

1: Nobody know what wage he is on.
2: Nobody knows what his playing role is set out to be, compared to any coaching responsibility.

So, those that are bed wetting over this. Take a step back and realise that this is probably not the multi-million pound deal you think it is. It is not a deal that says he is definitely only still in a playing only capacity.

As somebody has said already, it is more than likely akin to the 3rd keeper role that clubs have, it is just the case that he happens to be an outfield player.

I've no doubt that he is a good influence on the players at training and on match day. But he just cant stay fit for even one full game these days. So, with all that said, why not just move him over to the coaching staff where he can still have that influence and guidance for the players? With Coleman and Baines, Moyes has two people he knows well and can trust having worked with both for years. I like Coleman a lot but I'm afraid having him as a player these days is just pissing money away. We absolutely need to (finally) sign a new right back, I can't believe its taken us this long to sort that position out.

On the flip side though if we can finally end our trophy drought it would be the perfect way for him to bow out.

We get to register 25 players, three of them are goalkeepers, so you can afford to have one of them as a coach/mascot/cheerleader. That leaves 22 spots for outfield players, why would we give up one of those spots for a player that won't play? Just make him a coach, FFS.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

Last time I checked Jags isn't part of the club and Baines retired long ago??
Think you need to read the OP that I replied to mate

EDIT

My bad. I thought I replied to the post that said Seamus was the best player never to have won something at Everton.

Oops , blame it on the Mythos 😂

We registered four keepers in our 25 man squad last season :

Everton’s very own Bez. Whatever contract he’s on I’m sure will now reflect that he can barely walk but can point, be a good role model and can still deliver a rallying cry when needed. He was always going to be kept on in some capacity as he’s very obviously a great fella to have in an organisation and will no doubt be looking at a transition onto the coaching staff.

A coach can do this, not a player on another hefty wage packet. He looked a silly old man in that last game at goodison, was perfect opportunity to bow out with dignity.

There is a huge difference between the influence a player/captain can have on a squad compared to any coach. They are like chalk and cheese. The player is in the dressingroom listening to the players , hearing their problems and helping sort them.

Coleman is widely respected by all. The fact that David Moyes who had every opportunity to cut Coleman loose but wanted him to stay tells you a lot about the influence he has.

No idea about the salary but there is little doubt imo that be not be on huge money as we all know he will not be playing on a regular basis.

Great news for the club as far as I am concerned.

An astute move I think. Having him around the training pitch with all the new blood coming in will be a good thing. I don't expect him to play too many games, but his involvement around the club will be a great asset. Hopefully, we'll still be looking to bring in a younger right back. Expectations need to be managed, and Rome wasn't built in a day etc etc.

In reality we can have more than 25 players.
Armstrong will not be included in that number , not sure if there will be others.

That is a fair point, although I always thought it was 2 keepers?

Still not enough for me to think that this is not the worst thing to happen ever, like some are going on like.

I would also doubt that the full 25 will be used with U21s adding to the large amount of subs clubs can have these days.
