2024/25 Seamus Coleman

I agree with you except we don’t know what kind of wage he’s on. I’m sure I read he was making an ironic and well deserved £60kpw at the height of his playing career…
If he’s been given a year at a third of that to maybe play the odd cup game and transition over to coach at the same time then I’m for it
I'd be surprised if its even £20kpw at this point, hes taken reduced terms more than once in the last few years I think. Like you pointed out, he was never a massively high earner even at his peak.

I think of it as him filling an outfield role a bit like the 3rd choice keeper. Someone who is emergency cover as a player, but really is more a player/coach to help in the dressing room. Nothing wrong with that

Should be beyond the 'least he deserves'/sentimental stuff. Can we trade pashun for an actual functioning right back?

He could still deliver pashun in a coaching role so I don't understand this.
Ashley Young offered FAR more than Seamus has for a few years. No problem keeping him on coaching for his influence in the changing rooms

If we’re basically paying him a (good) coach’s wage for all those talismanic qualities of his, I get it. If we use this signing as an excuse not to sign a legitimate backup RB it’s an absolute mare from the club. It feels like he broke down in every game he played last year.

It’s perfectly fine to love the guy, recognise and respect his massive contribution, but also think that he’s utterly finished as a player.

I would normally agree mate but with Seamus, the impact he has on the rest of the team is worth the 1 year extension even if he doesn't play very often.

A very important signing at a time of transition for the club, he's a huge influence on the players. Being bothered whether his title is player, coach, cheerleader or whatever is a bit of a waste of energy tbh.

What a waste of time and money this is. He'll start the first game at BMD and then we'll have centre halves and midfielders playing right back for the entirety of the rest of the season. There'll be more rallying cries than appearances, that's for sure.
