2024/25 Seamus Coleman

He won the lottery signing for a team that are far too sentimental. Getting paid handsomely to kiss the badge and shout “come on!” in the changies, despite being crap for the last 5 years.
Now after handing a new deal to our captain who can`t get fit enough to actually get some game time, just waiting for the next new deal announcement for the CF who can`t score and keeps getting injured.

On the new contract for his captain, Moyes said: “Seamus is more than just a player at Everton. He offers so many different qualities.

“His leadership, his professionalism and his humanity are second to none. He’s helped carry the Club through some difficult periods in the past few years and his influence in the dressing room has been key to that.

“He's had to deal with some really difficult injuries, too, but he has done that and still been able to help inspire inside the dressing room at the same time.

“This could be a period of real change at the Club and I want somebody who can help deliver the messages of what it means to be an Everton footballer.

A coach can do this, not a player on another hefty wage packet. He looked a silly old man in that last game at goodison, was perfect opportunity to bow out with dignity.

Great statement from Mr. Moyes.

Would anyone agree with me that Seamus is the greatest Everton legend never to have won owt with us (yet)?

The only rivals in my opinion and in my Everton supporting life would be Mike Lyons, Big Bob and Dunc.

I agree with you except we don’t know what kind of wage he’s on. I’m sure I read he was making an ironic and well deserved £60kpw at the height of his playing career…
If he’s been given a year at a third of that to maybe play the odd cup game and transition over to coach at the same time then I’m for it

I dont mind him staying fir another year tbh. Especially that we are going to have a load of new faces come in. We need someone like Coleman, who is familiar and has been with this club for years. Moyes obviously see's that Colenan has those qualities that's needed to help players bed in and who is also a big figure in the dressing room.
Just my opinion of course

Definitely fine with this. The least he deserves after 16 years of service and his loyalty and passion has only grown if anything.

Should be beyond the 'least he deserves'/sentimental stuff. Can we trade pashun for an actual functioning right back?

He could still deliver pashun in a coaching role so I don't understand this.

I mean... is he?

Coleman has never really struck me as a lad who'd demand a wedge to be honest. Wouldn't surprise me if he was on relative buttons compared to most of the squad..
