2024/25 Youssef Chermiti

At the time it was reported at £15 million (BBC) now it is 12-15 million Euros. I was just going off what it was initially stated and the fact we didn't need him tbh

I think we did need him imo.

He was highly rated and we had two strikers, one of which was injury prone.

People constantly say "why didnt we buy x a year before when he went for a third of the price we have to pay now".

Then we did buy the player and no one has any patience for the lad and moan about how its a poor signing. Then we give him to a fat useless kopite whos either got no intention of trying to improve his playera. Or more then likely is incapable of coaching ayers to improve and he picks up a bad injury.

The lad needs a loan but from what ive seen of him theres a player in there. Hes just been hamstrung by poor management and a bad injury.

Hopefully a loan will do the lad wonders

The little we have seen, I've really liked him. He does need a full season in a good league though. A top Championship season would help us either get some good money for him if we sign someone like Barry and he does well or means that we now have a young striker ready to step up.
Can I ask why?

I've not seen him do anything of note and yet people all speak quite positively about him.

Has he even scored a goal for us yet?

Felt like he had the natural tools to be a good striker. Same with Barry from what I've seen of him. Neither are the finished package but both have the natural instincts that a striker requires.

In his limited appearances I think he's shown glimpses of quality. Not saying he's looked like a world beater or anything, but there have just been little hints of genuine ability there, something I haven't seen in plenty of other young strikers we've given minutes to. I think the way he ended 23/24 and then played in pre-season last summer there was a decent chance he was going to start the season in the team. He was out for a long time though and he might have missed his chance here now. Thats just the way it goes.

He's played an average of about 10 minutes per appearance, but he looks sharp, and I recall him making some clever passes in his later appearances. He was notably more composed and looked a lot bigger and stronger than he had early on. His only lengthy appearance produced a goal for the U21s in their only win in the 2023/2024 EFL Trophy.

I've always been hopeful and wanted him to turn out to be a player, but he is still unknown and I'm glad he's set to go out on loan. He was kind of the consolation prize when we missed out on El Bilal Touré, who is two years older and hasn't set the world on fire, and he cost Atalanta twice what Everton paid for Chermiti.

I just don't know if we've seen anywhere near enough to say he's got some quality.

The injury took away his opportunity last season to make an impact but it very much feels like he's being rated above what he's shown like we do with young strikers, see Cannon and Simms.

I never understood this signing.

239 minutes in the Premier League in two seasons. He really needs to stay fit and play this season, almost certainly on loan somewhere. Suspect we will have a good look at him pre-season before deciding where…. especially as we have about 14 senior players currently.

El Bilal Toure has had terrible injuries. Chermiti has had a couple of big ones that have cost him a season.

Poor bloke. At least one major injury a season for four years, two last year. I think past injury record is a key thing that should be considered in our recruitment. Take Tarks, until his current injury barely missed a game in his career and has been solid for us. Gbamin for example a catalogue of thigh and muscular issues for several seasons before he joined us.

TBF - Chemitti didn't seem to have any problems before and I know it is not an exact science. My daughter played for Ipswich for five seasons without hardly missing a game and has just come back after missing a season and a half with an ACL - but that was a freak in game contact incident.

But with a small squad - it hurts us if we have players more prone to picking something up.

Do we think he'll be sold/loaned or given a chance? He's impressed me one way or another every time I've seen him but again looks like he'll be getting limited game time presuming Beto and Barry are ahead of him in the pecking order and we'll be playing one up front.

My prediction is that he'll just never quite make it here, which would be sad to see as I really think he has something.
