Stroke Awareness

I was once hauled over the coals at the end of a formal presentation for using latin without indicating that's what it was by, for example, typing it in italics. Being a comp. lad I neither knew nor cared what they were on about. Still don't. Don't really know why I am bothering to type it here. Quis scit ...

Was just thinking this week on this topic. I did a couple of check ups a few years back including those 24hr readings at home of your BP. Basically was at doctors once and it was quite high so did more follow ups, but at the end I’ve just been regularly told that I am “on the border” and just to watch my salt intake, improve diet and exercise. Which I do

However this week during an appt I got it checked and the doc said it was a bit high so I should do a follow up with my own doc. However is it not just the case that being on the border, I am going to have moments where it’s a bit high? And is there a point in doing more follow ups. I guess I’m just wondering that if I’ve been told I’m always on the border, then how do I know when my BP is actually a cause of concern.

I have a machine at home to check it, but tbh I’m never sure if I do it right and if it’s reliable. Maybe it’s worth to get something a bit more reliable and recommended and do my own regular checks weekly say and go to docs if it’s regularly high?

Another problem with this is that I’m in Barcelona, and although I’m fluent in Spanish I don’t take in all the conversation and details as easily when im at a doctors appointments and often am not ready in the moment to ask follow up questions

I purchased an arm blood pressure machine not that expensive- did a two week written log fir my GP who got my BP tablets spot on - avoid Beta Blocker BP Pills at all cost !

Latest from Paul the Esk…

There’s a lot in this article from Esk that rings true, especially about peer-to-peer support groups.

My missus regularly attends a support group for cancer sufferers rated Stage 4 i.e. terminal, and gets and gives a great deal of comfort to other people in a similar situation.

If you or any of your families and friends have suffered a stroke, I would highly recommend you/they contact Paul.

Cheers, Andy

Hope the boss is ok. Coping strategies and not feeling alone and crushed by a diagnosis is important, the isolation. Human connection can help ease the transition into getting to a point of acceptance and peace with the reality of what's coming.
