Today’s Football - 2024/25 Season

Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2.
Inevitable

The DNCG had previously decided to relegate OL to Ligue2 as a precautionary measure at the end of the past season. Additionally, the club would face restrictions on salary management and a ban on recruitment.

Textor who has a 45% stake in Crystal Palace and other clubs including Botafogo seemed to believe the DNCG would go light (relegation threat at end of season) in order to cover around 100M in debts they have accumulated (OL has 2nd highest wage bill in Ligue 1, behind the Qatari club he blames for the severe ruling)

Despite warnings from DNCG on debts since the season before and chronic debts starting from 2020, Textor still has to balance the books after increase to 145M in recruitment debts, with only 40M in sales (Basis for firing SD, Friio). Debts grew despite their revenues increasing year to year

His EAGLE holdings had to find 130M to avoid relegation via:

1) 100M transfers of players across all clubs held by EAGLE
2) 100M via New York Stock Exchange to inject cash to absorb portion of debt (already noted in their 23’-24’ financial report)
3) 75M equity injection
4) Crystal Palace sale: 200M - seemingly improbable for a minority stake
5) Champions League qualification: 20M - less likely with financial & recruitment restrictions

DNCG followed through and made it official - Inevitable along with a fire sale for players like Cherki or Almada

Tragic for OL and Lyonnais fans for both men & women’s football teams - the American owners have embarrassed the club quite visibly in recent years (Textor’s leaked text messages alone are surreal)

Also, Sundays u21's fixtures were great. If you can find em, both games went to 3-2
Germany Italy
Denmark France

Some ace goals and some high drama. Italy were down to 9 men. So far as Sundays go, it was a great day.

Ironically puts them lower than Palace, so Palace would have got in via default 😂

€500m worth of debt though. That TV deal collapse had destroyed them.

Kinda what we went through with Usmanov’s sanctions but on steroids

Must have some decent players still we could probably pick up ?
