Thomas Frank

Mate of mine works at Spurs, said that entire first day he was going around introducing himself to everyone at the club, from cleaners through to the players, asking about them, saying hello etc. My mate said there's not been one Spurs manager who would do that previously when he's been working there.

Maybe I'm a miserable person and this certianly reflects terribly on me, but my reaction was that's small time as owt! Type of thing that works at Brentford but not a club like Spurs. I feel (perhaps wrongly!) you need a bit of arrogence and presence at top clubs. Obviously shows he's a nice bloke though.

On a human level, it's nice to be nice but its not like it affects results positively. If that happens it isn't because the manager says hello to Maureen in the canteen every morning.

Yeah you're right obviously, it is nice to be nice. But from everything I've read or seen the best managers have an arrogance about them though. You couldn't imagine Klopp or Pep doing the same could you. FWIW all the employees at Spurs just thought it was hilarious - as I said they'd never seen owt like it before from a manager.

It's not that he was polite and nice, it was that he took an entire day making sure he went round to everyone to say hello, rather then cracking on with the job at hand.

You do realise that he was being shown around the training ground and was introduced to everybody. You are trying to imply that he rocked up on his own accord and went and made himself known to the staff. There is a full video of it on YouTube.

Talk about spin.

Totally agree. I would also prefer a manager that finds time for everyone, recognising perhaps it needs everyone working together to make a club successful. Much better than some aloof so and so who doesn't even know the name of the person who provides him his cuppa in the morming. I would say, based on this, early signs are promising.

Think its a nice thing to do by Thomas Frank, like him & hope he does well there & looks after Richy.

It’s manners mate. Chances are it will make staff/personnel feel comfortable and perhaps more relaxed in their jobs if there is a better vibe around the place.

Of course on the pitch is where it matters most but still, it’s a nice thing to do and it didn’t prevent Alex Ferguson from winning and he made the effort to meet as many staff as possible.
