Sandhills station

One thing is, hes definitely incompetent.

"I was in the control room, and there was no problem getting fans away after the game via train"... that's because everyone left at Half Time, Steve.

The words he used were "getting rid of them".

THAT tells you all you need to know about his attitude to Everton fans and the issues they face because of his and the LCC's incompetence and laziness.

So there will be 8 car trains pulling into Sandhills, is the platform big enough to accommodate the amount of folks that would fill 8 cars? Oh I forgot we have the cattle pen to deal with that.
This should have been all in the planning for our ground - item no 1 - the city council should have sorted it all back then & BK who was in charge off this stadia it should have been a no 1 priority .... not wait till now to sort this mess out !

I wondered this.

The platform is about 134m long according to the measurement I just made using Google Maps.

I have no idea how long an 8 car train is… though I’m sure someone will know!

Though of course, Merseyrail trains are actually pretty good, and moving down the train from one carriage to another is no bother.

You just need people not to just walk in and stand right by the door, but move right down the train. That’s always a pain on busy metro trains.

“Not me guv ,I’m only the mayor. speak to Everton about the Liverpool region transfer network they’re in charge of all that “

Edit :

Having listened to it in full now he basically suggests any issue are down to Everton & Liverpool city council . Using the fact that “the weather is always nice first game of the season“ , seems A belting planning consideration”

I had a look on Google maps and the platform seems plenty long enough. There`s a 4 car train on google maps just to the north of Sandhills and its looks like that takes half the length of the platform.

That was back when there wasn`t a Kopite Everton hating mayor in charge that there is now. Bring back Big Joe Evertonian Anderson, equally useless but at least he was one of us.

I think what was said was that they would be putting on 8 car trains earlier. During the test event, 4 car trains were packed early on as people made their way to pubs before kick off, and the 8 car trains came online too late.
The way merseyrail catch up with punctuality these days, to massage the figures, is to miss out a whole run of stops.

So even if you manage to get on a train at Sandhills, whether one stops at the destination you want is likely to be highly uncertain.

The other lot got all sorts of planning dispensation for all their extensions plus Gillette & Hicks got permission to build a new ground on a Victorian park way back - sacrilege of the tight planning laws back then - lucky they sold up!

Common sense is you put a massive parking area not far away from BMD even a 15 minute walk plus a sea terminal port at the back or in the area near the stadia to make it a four sided visit - the Kings Dock had that in the plans ? again even if its 20 minute walk away etc ....
Number 0ne priority from day one !

Thing is that you hope it works. If it doesn't, keep complaining because he'll eventually will have to do something substantial because they won't be able to maximise the stadiums potential for the city... therefore stopping money coming in.

The worm will turn

I dont think that's his priority tbh.

He's been a very poor regional Mayor on that score for years as far as I understand. To expect him to be overly concerned about Everton of all organisations stimulating income for Liverpool City Region is for the birds.

IMO the feller is a self-regarding and self-serving publicity junkie. That's his motive for being in that post...and the £90k salary that goes with it.
