Well, you’re certainly interpreting what paid-for membership offers in the way the club’s commercial team would like - but I’m afraid it’s transparent cynicism from my point of view.Maybe, I guess time will tell.
The original point though was memberships are meaningless money spinners and don’t offer anything to fans.
I disagree, I’m not in Liverpool anymore and I haven’t been to a game for 2-3 season, but i feel better paying to be a member of the club. It gives me a connection beyond simply saying I’m an Everton fan. It’s about connection, pride, and the sense of home that comes from standing behind a Club I truly believe in.
I can say I contribute in a meaningful way (money) to Everton’s attempts to improve their performance.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the club’s perspective, and I understand that squeezing as much cash from the fanbase as it can bear is a prerequisite for Premier League clubs to compete these days.
I’m pleased the kids are getting a bit of tat through the post, though I note that adults get absolutely zip these days. I’ve had water bottles, Bluetooth speakers and all sorts of other bits and pieces that at least made it feel like I got something for my money in the past.
So ultimately, it irritates me that I’m paying £200 for the family. I don’t feel pride, I feel mild annoyance.
