I've played against guys who bowled 90mph. It's self preservation and nothing more. You take guard on middle and when you've played and missed your body has taken you to outside leg and you didn't even know. I wasn't the worst lower order bat but the increase in speed by only a few mph is like playing on a different planet.

With the top pros it's the movement they get and the variation. The inswinger at pace is scary. We chatted with him later and he was very complimentary about Dennis Lillee and how he extended his career by working on his variety. Marshall must have been scary to face in his prime.
