The Club World Club

It could be great, and it could hugely shape the entire future of club football.

But it could also flop massively. Some of the matchups, they can't appeal to anyone but supporters of said team? Al-Ahly Vs. Porto? Seattle vs. Botafogo? Auckland City vs. Anyone? LAFC vs. Esperance de Tunis? Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Ulsan.

I guess we won't know until it's all done and dusted. But just feels an OTT unneeded process. At least with a World Cup, there are 214 confederation... club football has tens of thousands of teams.

And when we get to the business end of the tournament, its likely to be South American teams v European teams.

You'd imagine so, surely?

I just find it mad, a side who hadn't dmwin the bundesliga in 2 years, in RB Salzburg has managed to end up participating.

Porto, none for 3 years.

How they qualifying here? 😂

Hope it's good, prove me wrong.

Its harder to financially dope international football though (although they are doing a good job of doing it by the teams with the most expensive infrastructure or biggest network for duel nationality's dominating international football the last 10 years)

There are always going to be favorites and also rans at every tournament, but do you picture any of the Asian or American sides doing a Bulgaria in 94? or a Greece in 2004 or a Morocco 2022?

I imagine i'm in the minority but these games are more interesting to me.

I see enough of the European sides. Quite looking forward to watching the teams from other continents.

The Champions League has wrecked most leagues in Europe, with the same teams in each league qualifying every year for europe, and mostly winning their league, as a result of the Champions League prize money. That's why if you look at those leagues its the same teams winning every time (Celtic, Porto, APOEL, BATE Borisov, F91 Dudelange, etc. etc. etc.)

Now this will do the same on a worldwide level. Auckland City are going to get 2.5m for just turning up, they're semi-professional side - so they'll no doubt use that money to win their league from now on, and qualify again in the future, getting them another 2.5m...

Even in this country (and europe more widely), we'll see the likes of Chelsea and Chelsea getting near enough 100m, which allows them to bypass FFP - and keeps them at the top (even worse when it's expanded to 48 teams for the next one).
