New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

The official name of Benfica is Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Really, you'd have to have a massive insecurity complex to fret that the stadium's central adboard will be emblazoned with the name of your own city. UEFA, rightly, will insist that we call our city by its name. We are the first club in this city. Why we think we need to cede even the name is beyond me and smacks of complete capitulation. Kenwright wanted us to cede the entire thing by leaving. Euro 2028 will celebrate that not only did we stay, but we now have the best stadium in our city. Everton Stadium, Liverpool.

It's not 'ceding' the city to Liverpool by wanting to avoid UEFA's insistence on host city name rather than host club name. It's to avoid confusion as much as anything. That's the reason we dont call the Merseyside Derby the Liverpool Derby.

Yeah, a good way to put it I think.
We are Everton, we don't need to explain ourselves to anyone.
All those watching will be football fans anyway, they will know who the stadium belongs to.
It will be mentioned countless times on TV anyway in the build up and during the games that are played there.

Dave, the host city is Liverpool, not Liverpool fc, wtf are you on about.

There will be zero confusion.

Were Everton fc, it’s the everton stadium/hill Dickinson stadium/Bramley Moore dock stadium/wtf you want to call it stadium in Liverpool.

UEFA are perfectly correct. There will be no exceptionalism for us. Otherwise you'd have Juventus instead of Turin, and Real Madrid instead of Madrid. The City of Manchester Stadium will have Manchester emblazoned on the half-way line. We will be no different. There is no confusion. The Everton Stadium is in Liverpool. If there is confusion about among some people about our origin, that simply tells us we need to advertise where we are from more - not less. And certainly not hide it.

To us there'll be no confusion. To your average Hans/Enrico/Pierre/Tomasz/Juan/Erik who aren't really big football fans but will just watch their own national team's games they'll just see 'Liverpool' and think "ah, that's Liverpool's ground then."

The undiscerning - which will be the vast majority - WILL be confused.

If your civic opponents own the Liverpool brand then it's an issue.

I'd say Villa could ride out the Birmingham signage in their Euro2028 because they dwarf BCFC so much.

There are genuine concerns about this, but as I said earlier - since that pathetic deal saddled us with a ridiculously inappropriate name for our stadium I'd even take 'Liverpool' over it.

I suppose we'll be in the same boat as Villa in the Euro's with 'Birmingham' being used. In the past Benfica's stadium has been used for CL finals with 'Lisbon' plastered all over the host venue - more associated with city rivals Sporting (outside Portugal) than with Benfica.

'city of Liverpool' would be preferable for 2028 games, but I doubt UEFA will compromise. Mind you, better 'Liverpool' than that ridiculously embarrassing name our stadium has been given either way.
What don't you like about the Hill Dickinson stadium name Dave? A successful local business investing in the community is good no?

It's not an issue for UEFA.

If it's an issue for us - and it isn't - well all that tells you is how mismanaged we have been. In that case, that's on us.
