Crystal Palace and the Europa League

It seems Palace may not be allowed to compete in the Europa League next season.

Apparently, there is a problem as our old friend John Textor also has a stake in Lyon who have qualified as well and will have priority over Crystal Palace.

Decision pending ...

Regardless of the outcome of this dispute, our owners should take note of this in the event that both ourselves and Roma qualify for the same European competition. The road to go down would be placing the shares of at least one club into a blind trust, just as the owners of Manchester United and Manchester City did last season with Nice and Girona being their sister clubs, respectively.

Crystal Palace have seemingly avoided this loophole due to their owners missing the UEFA deadline to do so, as they did not anticipate playing in European football. Meanwhile, Evangelos Marinakis took note that both of his clubs (Notts Forest and Olympiakos) could qualify for Europe and took the necessary step of placing his shares into a blind trust to avoid the issue. This whole debacle just showcases one of the problems of multi-club ownership, which is conflict of interest.

Leipzig & Salzburg are both owned by Red Bull And have been allowed to compete.

City & Girona were allowed fo compete.

Surely won't happen. Textor loves making a mountain out of a molehill.

Textor is stupid. TFG aren't.

I hope Palace get this sorted, their fans deserve to go on a European tour.
Textor is a bit erratic and I do think that we may have dodged a bullet with him. On the one hand, he is clearly very passionate about the clubs which he owns (some may say a little too passionate), but on the other he appears a bit reckless and prone to sudden changes of heart.

At one point, he wanted to sell Crystal Palace and then later on he wanted to buy out their other shareholders. Hopefully they are able to remain in Europe, as they have earned the right to be there.

Fair play to the other main shareholders at Palace for not selling to him, the guy looks like an absolute car crash of an owner.

It's a farce. I'm not a fan of the multiclub model in football and would get rid of it being allowed but I hate that we have state sponsored clubs and competitions, with clubs like Chelsea, City etc. breaking the rules or finding loopholes and we have Saudi sponsoring competitions like the club world cup so they can win the world cup for themselves but a smaller club that's built themselves up in the right way can end up being punished. Hate modern football so much.

I reckon they could cope better without him, but he does deserve some credit where it's due. At Crystal Palace, for instance, he was the driving force behind the decision to hire Oliver Glasner, who led them to the FA Cup win and at Botafogo (his Brazilian club), he guided them to the Copa Libertadores. He seems well-liked at Botafogo too.

At the end of the day, I am glad we got TFG rather than Textor as I think TFG will probably be able to offer greater financial resources and leave footballing decisions to people with a background in football.

I agree with all that but have to be honest ( and perhaps it says more about me ) but I like the cut of Textors jib.

Can’t celebrate a goal because somebody might decide that your striker was offside by a margin inconceivable to the human eye 5 minutes before it went in.

Can’t celebrate getting into Europe because your owner might not actually know what football entities he has investmented in.

Can’t celebrate new ownership because the government might decide that your new owners money and super yacht is funding their enemies and must be frozen.

What a sport
