2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Keane was a very bad expensive signing - sod our youth players again .....

…..you shouldn’t equate one with the other, Joey. Young players will come through if they’re good enough, not simply because they’re young. Sadly, we’ve not brought an Academy CB through for a long time, it’s increasingly difficult to do. Richard Dunne was exceptional, I watched him lots, Harvey really rated him.

Lewis Gibson and Holgate were purchased just like Branthwaite and Stones. McNaught, Labone, Hurst, Kenyon (2 from Blackpool) played because they were outstanding.

It’s not easy finding them.

Labone was a local lad ?

Why would we be buying a 4th choice as a replacement? Shouldn't we buy someone good and the other three have to fight for the remaining spot?
Not really when its our strongest position.

Get what you mean though. Makes more sense to flip it on its head though and get somebody who stands a chance of becoming a starter at least.

Duffy and Mustafi were in our academy and we let them go as didn’t deem them good enough. Certainly no one recently has been good enough though.

They did sign that lad, was it last year?who went into the academy/U21s. Was he from Burton? No idea if he is any good but think he was a similar age to what how old branthwaite was when we signed him.

Where did we try and play Dier?

All those players purchased or not were youth players - with only a 100m budget - DM already sending 12 million of it for Alcatraz - he has to get more bargains like him as we need 2 fullbacks a playmaker - two wingers - & a CF -

I am afraid Keane has to go his wages alone are ridiculously high & he turns like an articulated truck !

I think Everton will offer Keane a 1yr contract with a option. I think they will look at the 4 center halfs and the cost of the new contract compared to going out and spending 25 to 30 million on a new CH.
I like Esteve of Burnley but I think that money can be better spent on a striker or winger.

For a youngster breaking into any first team is one of the hardest positions to nail down. You really have to learn your craft and any mistakes are cruelly exposed.

…I dare say his agent has been contacting lots of clubs in the last 12 months, informing his availability and financial demands.

Seeing him sign elsewhere might be the best result for everybody. I imagine Everton may not offer him a new contract until late on if it seems like they will end up needing him as squad depth.
