2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

It's really not about how Keane plays, it's the lack of confidence his colleagues have in him that's the real problem. Whoever partners him seems to lose something from their own game, because they are not confident of him doing his job.
Because they have eyes and have watched him deteriorate so badly over the last 3 years when he should have been in his prime .
He’s terrible and that’s why nobody including the fans and players has faith in him in our own box . Up the other end he has a slither of confidence from me .

Excellent agree. Reckon Keane could surprise everyone and improve dramatically under Moyes to the top defender everyone thought he'd be when he started out as a youngster at Man United.
I agree, he’s the worst of our current CD’s but if he’s here, willing to take a reduction in wage, not very likely to make it on the pitch AND has moyes as manager (Who deffo knows how to polish a defensive turd) I’d keep him as long as we volley Holtgate as far away from BMD as possible

If we extend his contract, then we are saying that mediocrity is acceptable.

I can understand it makes sense to keep him in terms of transfer fees, compared to if we buy a replacement backup but it makes more sense to sign someone younger, who's on much lower wages.

He was downright awful between 2021- up to start of this season so people are justifiable in those opinions.

This season when the team started picking up points he actually did o.k and Tarks looked worse. Than Branthy returns as ever whoever is alongside him looks good.

Don't really want to keep him though as to me it delays the urgent regeneration of the first 11. Surely J O'B showed on the final day he can have a good run at CB next season? He's done a good job at RB obviously but I'd prefer him to get more games ahead of Tarks next season centrally and then find a good RB to develop.

Then you release Keane and get in a younger CB to develop as J O'B eventually did this year.

Guess Moyes is just thinking keep as much of the defensive unit around as possible but I think the issue there is when injuries hit and Keane has to start ten in a row.

He didn't do too badly last season but the issue is he makes those around him worse.
The opinions are understandable but probably not justifiable, that’s my point really.

We see Keane all the time and so he’s taken on this bogeyman status where he’s seen as being much worse than he actually is in relation to other players in the same role. Would I swap him for someone like Esteve? Yes, without a second thought. Would I swap him for most teams 4th choice centre half? Not really no.

He’s not necessarily better but not necessarily worse either. He’s just an average PL squad player like I said. Pretending Willy boly, Jamaal lascelles, Issa Diop, Konstantinos mavropanos etc are miles better than him is just stupid, because they aren’t. Just not seeing someone mess up as much doesn’t mean anything when you don’t watch them as much, it’s just a really really simple fact that people ignore in their hysteria to proclaim our players as the worst ever. Releasing Keane to get someone loads better is great, releasing him and signing someone who is effectively him with a different name isn’t.

If they’re better than him then yes, obviously it does. If they’re not, then no it doesn’t. It’s not even a particularly complex puzzle.

Yeah, I'm sure there's plenty players our scouting team can spot that would do a decent enough job as cover, with the potential to improve aswell.

Hopefully yes. It’s obviously not that easy otherwise all the players I mentioned wouldn’t have the best part of a thousand PL appearances between them and people like max kilman wouldn’t be going for £40m, but yeah we can pretend like it’s dead simple to pick up people from the danish superliga for 5p and them turn into top class players if you like.

He’s happy to be 4th choice cb on reduced wages - no one else is coming here to be that man. He’s probably a good senior for the younger lads to be around and we need to sign at least ten players this summer.

In ideal world he’d have punted when he was starting but, as 4th choice, it’s no
Biggie tbh
