Today’s Football - 2024/25 Season

• Chelsea total revenue (2024) - £468.5 million
• Chelsea weekly wage bill (2024/25) - £3.27 to £4.47 million

• Real Betis total revenue (2024/25) - £162.4 million
• Real Betis weekly wage bill (2024/25) - £867k

It’s a farce. Having three European trophies is pointless if the bottom two are just a chance for mega money clubs to win something when they’re not good enough to take part in the competition they should be in.

It’s akin to letting Anthony Joshua compete as a heavyweight in the light heavyweight division because he keeps getting starched by other heavyweights. No sporting credibility whatsoever.

maybe this is how they spring the new scab 6 super euro league.
bore everyone with the current load of tripe, then suggest something as a little improved.
it's easier getting what you want when the audience is begging for change.

Unless uefa invented another worthless pot out of their money grabbing bums, for the runners up to the runners up to the runnersup to this one, for tv. They haven't won't that one yet.

Id totally forgotten this competition existed. This is as worthwhile as the Simod Trophy, only designed to stretch squads that might look as if they challenge the Sky brands in the league (ironic one of them was in it). Hope we never fall into its trap.

I only knew there was a match tonight because a mate's a Chelsea fan ... I asked him if it was a friendly!

That exact thought crossed my mind when I saw the ‘reformed’ super league format (Unify League). The top two tiers are all but a closed shop for the big boys to win a trophy and rake in cash, the lower two being a play pen to pool everyone else, but at least it would be more equitable in terms of opposition.

An actual solution would be for UEFA to implement an NFL style salary and transfer cap. Sadly this will never happen as the goal isn’t sporting merit or integrity, and probably hasn’t been for decades.

I would rather we graciously declined to enter it. Meaningless participation certificate of a cup.

No - clever ... and i woukd argue mire dignified to quietly not go along with the sham. A promising squad that finishes in those sort of qualification positions will struggle playing the extra games next year and will ruin their league prospects for the main European runners up competition, beloved by sky. It's exactly designed to keep promising teams away from disrupting the trough.
 

There should just be the Champions League (only league champions) and Cup Winners Cup (main domestic cup winner) for all European leagues.

That would result in some fantastic 24/32 team competitions with teams who deserve to be there and are playing for something worthwhile.

But it's all about cash grabbing now 24/32 team competitions don't tick the boxes.

That’s not going to happen so we either adapt to the reality or continue to be purist about it and watch our rivals win the trophies instead.
