Injuries have done him really, and I assume we’re unlikely to give him a new contract on the off-chance he may get it back.

Tough game.

I just think his confidence is shot. Notice how his strike went directly to the keeper and he had all the time in the world. He just wanted to hit it on target and not take any chances. Notice how when Beto went with his shot, he went for gold with his weak foot and tried to go for the corner. It didn't come off, but it shows you where the mentality is right now with both of them. He needs a fresh start.
Or, you know, he's never been even decent at one-on-ones and he's just a really crap striker?

Players are not just judged on one on ones.

Problem is he hasn't been good at what he usually is good at either recently.

It's best for everybody if he moves on I reckon as his card is marked already for some and you never recover from that.

Well he should be judged on his goal scoring record, which is woeful. And he should be judged on if he creates anything for anyone else, which is woeful. And he should be judged for, I don't know, doing SOMETHING that resembles a player playing in that position. And, yeah, you SHOULD be judged on one-on-ones. If you literally need someone to create something for you every single time you score a goal that, by the way, has to be a a header or scuffed anything, then you're not a good striker. Chris Wood, CHRIS WOOD has scored more goals this season than Dom in FOUR YEARS COMBINED!

You’ll be told he just had one purple patch in that 1 season under Carlo. Despite going 8, 15, 21 in consecutive seasons. These same people will be happy spending £30m for Delap who scored 2/3rds of his goals and got both his assists in the first half of the season.

Just ignore the injuries mate (and the absolutely dirge football we have played for the last 4 years), they obviously have nothing to do with it.

He will rightly leave and should go with our thanks for his many years of service and the number of goals we got for a measley £1.5m transfer.

Chris Wood is a perfectly fine player for a team who plays to his strengths.

We are kind of in agreement anyway, he has done next to nothing for ages. That's what I would judge him on, not just missing some one on ones. It's as good a time as any to clear the decks and try something new.

(Not Chris Wood obviously.)

I like how you are throwing ‘8’ in as a good goalscoring season! Truth is he had a couple of scoring streaks in Carlo’s spell. Virtually all from inside the 6 yard box.

Before, in between, and since he has a poor scoring record. He should have been replaced years ago.

I don’t think injuries have anything to do with it tbh. Has never been a good finisher. Had a purple patch of tap ins and deflections.

I mean scoring tap ins tends to show good finishing, and 2 years is quite a long purple patch like.

Injuries have done him in unfortunately, just at the point he was looking likely to kick on. It happens.

I've said it above mate, but there's nothing wrong with scoring goals in the 6 yard box. They all count the same!

Well yeah, I include 8 because he was pretty much a kid playing at PL level and that’s a decent return for that age. but it was also to show the progression he was making. Prior to injuries which impacted that development and would be foolish to pretend aren’t a factor.

He has his issues and it’s probably the right time to part ways because of that. But since Carlo, we haven’t exactly set up in that way to give him all those chances at the 6 yard box which he did well on. (Even during Carlos season we started playing a low block/more defensive style due to the injury crisis he had to deal with).

Saying that, if Moyes wants him to stay (as backup), I trust that. (Especially if Moyes is wanting to bring faster wingers in and have players hitting the byline and cutting it back across the box)

Genuinely don't think we can underestimate Carlo's role in assessing how to best use him with the players we had. Goals are goals, not a bad asset to have a striker scrapping them in...
