Well if we sign him, I will bet you as much as you like he starts the first game of next season 💰

Sound. And if he’s more effective than Beto then he should keep his starting place, and if he’s not, then he WILL be demoted to the bench in favour of Beto.

Basically what I said
But he will be our number 9.
Like DCL was for dyche. And Moyes will be telling him that.

If Delap is so average as some are suggesting, why are United, chelsea and Newcastle also in for him? For what it’s worth, I think he’ll go to Chelsea as he’ll get regular starts (unlike at Newcastle) and they’re in the CL.

I hold the opinion that we need more than one competent striker, and that having more than one wouldn’t be pointless tbh mate.

I think he’s an exciting prospect and I’d be happy for us to sign him, but I neither agree or believe that he’d be a guaranteed starter at Everton right now.

….of course we need a couple of decent strikers, there’s no doubt about that but the hope in signing Delap is that he’ll be no1 in the pecking order.

Whether he’s guaranteed to start or not, we desperately need another striker. We only have Beto and Chermiti (whose totally unproven) as our strikeforce.

Surely the realistic stance is to say the jury is out? He was fairly poor in the loan spells he had in the Championship, but has scored a few goals for Ipswich. DCL managed to have two good seasons in his career but the norm has been way below that. We just don't know what Delap's "norm" is.

So you only accept examples from the premier league in the last 5 years. Right you are 🙄
Its fairly relevant though isn't it.

The game changes and evolves due to needs such as stats, scouting, sports science, social media, multi club ownership, 5 substitutes etc etc

I don't like any of that and much prefer the halcyon days of 3 subs and a squad of 14, but when your evaluating things you need to look at what's relevant to the modern game, its football for nerds

If you didn't look at it like that, you could comment something for example that Scotland produce tonnes of world class players because of Kenny Dalglish, Dennis Law, Graeme Souness, Billy McNeil, Paul McStay, Danny McGrain, Alan Hansen & Alec Cleland

United aren't exactly a fountain of football scouting knowledge
Chelsea buy players that they think they can move for value and Delap fits the young, english price tag, £30m is a good investment for them
Newcastle want a backup to Isak
