The Oldies Thread

That day has come. Arthritis knocked my playing days on the head 5 years ago, when my knee couldn't even cope with walking football anymore. But today, these old stalwarts go to the bin.

Thanks boys, it's been a blast. No titles, no FA or world cups, like most of us, but a huge amount of fun.

You know what's made me sadder than this? I realised that the remnants of mud on those shoes came from the finest and best school playing fields in the town. They're now a housing estate ffs.

Back in the late sixties anyone else dialling 999 from a public telephone, asking how Everton got on, being told the result and not getting an earful for wasting time? I only did that if Radio Merseyside phone was engaged.

Old enough to remember these, and Liverpool directory's, untouched by yobs.

In the Cubs, you used to earn part of your Tenderfoot badge by being able to make a successful phone call using these phones. If I remember correctly you put tuppence in and this allowed you to dial then when person answered you pressed button B.
Got me thinking now what button A was for.
Edit. I now know as you dialled and pressed button A when answered. Button B got you your money back if nobody picked up.

I think one of the buttons was for getting your money back if there was no answer.

Think you pressed button A.
Button B was for refunds (after you removed the sock you put up there days earlier):D
