Usually pre-season games are not a precursor of what is to come, but we got trounced 3-0 in a pre-season game at Tranmere that year and it absolutely was. Never understood the popularity of that top, to me it is a constant reminder of (for me) our worst ever team, and there have been too many candidates for that title.
