Last 6 PL seasons?

Newcastle - Gordon P 34 G 6 A 6
Newcastle - Gordon P 35 G 11 A 15
Everton & Newcastle - Gordon P 32 G 4 A 0
Everton - Gordon P 35 G 4 A 2
Everton - Gordon P 3 G 0 A 0
Everton - Gordon P 11 G 0 A 1
Played 150 Goals 24 Assists 24

Everton - Mcneil P 21 G 4 A 8
Everton - Mcneil P 35 G 3 A 6
Everton - Mcneil P 36 G 7 A 3
Burnley - Mcneil P 38 G 0 A 1
Burnley - Mcneil P 36 G 2 A 5
Burnley- Mcneil P 38 G 2 A 6
Played 204 Goals 18 Assists 29

So, Mcneil has Played 50 games more, 6 goals less, 5 assists more.

It's all about opinions, if you prefer Mcneil I find that absolutely mental but your not the only one so fair enough. I'm not a massive fan of Gordon btw, but I think he's a far better player. I don't think there would be a queue of Newcastle fans looking to swap Gordon for Mcneil

Anyway, this is the Delap thread so I'll get back on topic with that 👍
The point is statistically they are similar. I prefer Gordon too, I really like Gordon though.

Played 50 games less, basically a season and a bit. So if he didn't score and assists in the next 50 games I'd say "fine, yes I can see the stats are similar". I'd be shocked if Gordon doesn't add another 10 goals and 10 assists at least in the next 50 games.

Anyway, Delap thread it is and not the Gordon one so back on topic I need to go.

I've already mentioned it just before you, yeah the Everton fake bids were a joke and taking the piss out of us fans. I remember Kenwright doing an interview talking about Moutinho and another incredible player, with the watch this space line. Even going further back the Muller transfer saga and even Martin Dahlin. Good grief we've cocked up a lot of transfer deals
Nah, there was no cock-up with Kenwright. Everything went exactly as he planned...

It's a 30 million relegation clause, that's not a maximum. If United meet the clause and Chelsea bid 40 whose money do you think Ipswich will accept?
Ipswich receives the money from whichever club agrees to terms with the player. In your scenario, if Chelsea offered more than the release clause and signed the player, they'd have thrown away 10 million. What you're describing is a scenario in which a contract doesn't have a release clause, in which case the club can say no to 30 and yes to 40. The clause dictates that anyone can offer them 30 and have the right to negotiate with the player.

So knowing Everton we’ve bid £29 million

I mean true, he's played in better teams though.

Would be proper Everton to get involved in a bidding war for a player with a release clause though.

“Will you accept £35million?!”

“Actually ‘mr new Everton CEO whose name escapes me right now’. The player has a relegation clause. You can negotiate with him as long as you pay the £30million clause.”

“Oh so you like to play hardball?! Ok. HOW ABOUT FIFTY MILLION???!”

Well he was under contract by then, then. Then.

no I’m talking about when we signed him in 2014 ahead of the 14/15 season, following the loan

likes of Wolfsburg, Juventus and Real Madrid were interested at the time, former two a bit more concrete. i imagine there were others fancying a punt too

I agree. They have spent over 500m on that squad as well, and a lot of it is bang average from what I can see. Isak and that midfielder aside.

They are a very good side. Joelinton was obviously injured yesterday but they have an excellent midfield 3, two very good young full backs, a world class striker and 3 decent wingers.

I don’t think they’ve signed a single dud with that money tbh.

I'd take Livramento, Burns, Guimares, Tonali, Murphy, Gordon, Barnes and Isaak who would all walk into our starting 11.

But apart from 6-7 players of that kind of calibre, yes it wouldn't take much to catch them up I suppose

Livramento & Hall would be ace as our full backs.

Guimaraes & Tonali walk into our midfield

Isak clearly would be up top.

Thats 5 players that are levels above what we have currently and young enough to improve.

Its not in isolation though, we have a window now with cash to spend. Lets see how we end up.

It maybe that there is a 30 million clause but Ipswich do have a say on the structure of hows its paid.
I imagine if a club offered £30 cash straight up, then they could turn their nose up on a club that offers the 30 million on the drip.

I doubt it. Who's buying Barnes for 45m? They literally didn't get their money back on Wood mate.

And yes, there is a table, since Moyes returned they have the same number of points as us. Having spent 500m.

Would you pay 30m+ on Livramento or Hall? Or 60 odd on Tonali? I'm not sure I would.

Isak and Gordon have been great buys.

I like the fullbacks, but think they overpaid for them a bit.

Murphy I don't really see mate, I'd have Alcaraz, Ndiaye, McNeil over him

Fact is, if were able to bring in Delap and 3 others that turn out well then it will also be about mentality.

We were never the best or close to it under Moyes but the team spirit got us up the league.

Now we have cash...if we could sign young english full backs like hall and livramento id be made up.

If Delap hits the heights of Isak then wow.. if we find the new tonali and guimaraes great.

But i think we will be looking to bring in Delap based on playing time and team spirit.. rebuilding around him

I think hes a warrior that embodies the club...alcaraz also...never give up.

No it's or buts, that Newcastle midfield of Guimaraes, Joelington and Tonali are as good as any midfield in the premier league, How's has spent their money really well. Hope we can do the same.

For the interests of discussion...I'm subbed to a newsletter by people who have worked a lot at the top level of player recruitment, and this was their read on the Delap to Utd rumours:

Feels about right. Unlikely to be a superstar perhaps, but a solid prem striker at a good fee who you'll pretty much certainly be able to sell for a profit should you want to. All very hard to come by these days. That's the reason there's a queue of clubs for him.

I actually personally think that makes him a better for for us than anyone else too.
