2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

I can guess that if he had been starting more games centrally your opinion may be different (as may mine). But so far so good imo. The fee has to be considered as a bargain as we'd not lose money on him.

In terms of a shift in mentality, it all depends on how Moyes wants to play. I would guess its quick transitions as that would benefit Alcaraz, Ndiaye and Beto.

I cant see him going slow.
He doesn’t hide the ball very well when he receives it though which is a concern for me if he’s through the middle (or in a traditional CM slot). He’s good in transition as you say, definitely not a terrible buy I would just want better to be honest from a starter.

We’ve been that devoid of any kind of footballers though it will be refreshing if a few do actually arrive.

I think Alcaraz would do well on the right of a three in Italy or somewhere tbh. A bit like how Allan played before he came here.

Hes played CM for Southampton and looked a level above them with his passing and movement.

Anyway, hopefully Moyes signs him. At 22 and £12mil i see no downside risk there.

In terms of potential, he does need coaching to iron out some things but with his attitude, i expect he only improves.

I really like what I’ve seen of him but there’s defo something going on with his career that doesn’t make sense.
As has been stated previously, Saints spent £11.5m on him before Juventus took him on loan for 1/2 season paying £3m+ with a €47m option only send him back to be sold to Flamengo for £15m
Flamengo were then prepared to loan him to us with a view to selling at a loss from what’s been publicised about the fees.

There’s been a couple of things which sow a bit of doubt. He’s sulked when out wide at times and he can really struggle to get into a game.

When he’s involved he is definitely an asset. I guess consistency hasn’t been his strongest suit, can’t comment on attitude but it did worry me when he clearly didn’t track back because he was annoyed at playing wide left.

I think this has been covered a few times now.

Southampton signed him and he looked a level above them.

Their new manager then wanted to play a slow passing game which doesnt suit Alcaraz -- who is direct. Southampton fans wanted him in the team and said he'll be a £40mil player in 2-3 seasons.

Juventus must have seen something and he seemed overawed there according to the italians.

Back to Southampton and the same tippy tappy style meant the manager didnt use him and he was sold to Flamengo. Southampton fans again unhappy and posting how he was their best (or one of the best) player and would be worth £40mil+ in 2 seasons.

They then moved to a slower build up as well and their manager said he likes Alcaraz but doesnt suit their style.

Then he joined us and looks good when being involved and allowed to be direct from a central position.

Give him 12 months and we'll see if the Southampton fans were right.

But if there was that much talent there for all to see across the EPL, Serie A and Brasileiro Série A (even if his style didn’t suit the clubs) surely other teams would have been sniffing who would suit his style.
Thought I even saw Argentine news papers describing him as their next great hope…..

I want us to sign him, I’m just baffled why no one else has snaffled him already.

I know these sort of things have happened in the past, even Arteta was a bit of steal after bouncing round a few leagues, but these days with the analytics and the focus on flipping players for profits it just seem an odd one.

Maybe hes a just a massive whopper hidden behind a cute smile and a contemporary haircut.

Kevin Thelwell had the balls to go for him and the juice to get it done.

Moyes' quotes werent complimentary at the time and hes shown the Scotsman up somewhat.

Perhaps theres something missing to his game which was seen at Juventus?

Sentimental about a player that has been here abar 10 games? Not sure I get the thinking behind this at all. That has nothing to do with sentimentality. He is cheap and effective. Rooney, Barkley, Coleman, hell Richy- but sure. We are sentimental about a guy that has just arrived. What?
I admit he wasn’t the best example to use.

Argentine fan here, following him since his Racing Club days, and please forgive my English write
Southampton sign was a desperate intent to avoid relagation in 2023 and soon was loved by the fans.Remember his game vs Arsenal was superb. Then relegated and a new coach with possession style send him to the bench. The possibility to play in Juventus same games, ended with Allegri exit and Tiago Motta had others priorities . Back to Soton and the same boring and stubborn coach, bench again, then their need a GK and justified cap to acquire Ramsdale selling him to Flamengo.
He is 100% passion plays way better been the underdog .
In resume a bargain and justified take the risk at so low cost.
By the way Racing club fans loves him

Ndaiye has just been signed for 16m last year and nobody else wanted him

He’s now one of our best players and leading goal scorer

obrien signed for cheap and nobody else wanted him and now looks a bargain

Alcaraz will be the same .. what I mean is , in terms of transfer fee and thinking purely as a business signing … he will be a success

Thelwell did some good business last year. Let’s hope whatever data/process they were using is still in some sort of use amongst all the personnel changes.
