Goodison Alehouses: Crofts closed on Sunday. Any others going/gone?

Blackstone Warehouse will have to start playing techno remixes of Spirit of the Blues, thankfully the kopites will probably be five lines deep to notice!!

That the one on the Bootle/Kirkdale border? Looks derelict every time I go past
That's the one. My mate used to park up that way and we'd pop in as it was easy to get served.
The last time I went was before onr of our stunning defeats to Luton last season.
As we approached I saw a car parked outside missing a wheel, a smashed window on the floor above and it looking in a right state.
I sighed thinking it had closed but, miraculously, the door opened and an old boy came out onto the pavement clutching his pint to have a smoke.
It was still going then and we gladly made our way inside.
But I haven't been back that way since.
I think only people with a very distinct taste appreciate pubs like the Peacock.

The area and establishments that remain might be surprised by how many the womens team will get. I'm not suggesting that it'll be at the men's levels but I know many blues planning to go because of the pull of the grand old lady and the old routines. It may well prove to be a masterstroke from the new owners.
Have you not noticed that the crowds at all WSL games consist mainly of families and children? Hardly the alehouse types.

Growing up in Walton, it had, like many areas an abundance of pubs. Back in the late 70's early 80's we used to do a Sunday crawl with a pint in the following boozers along Walton Road. The Halfway House, Penryn Castle, Tintern Abbey, Fountains Abbey, The Pacific, St Hilda, The Clock, Queens, Salutation, Springfield, Netley, Royal Oak and finishing in The Bluehouse ! That was also in the day when pubs didn't open until 7pm on a Sunday! Admittedly we were all young and managed to get up for work on a Monday morning!
Sadly out that aforementioned list, only four remain.

A group of us on Sunday, saddened at the idea of not going to the old lady again agreed that we'll be going back for a bevvy and to keep the connection when the women play. Since then I've heard many say the same. What I'm saying is not about women's football, it's about Goodison Park and cherished routines that many love and will keep going in some form. Maybe not every week but I'll be going. What I'm saying is that the pull of Goodison has the potential to benefit the womens team, and the area.

Tony, the manager of the Darkhouse (Barlow Arms) has said he will run a coch from his pub to BMD and back for £6.50 if he can get 75 people to use it.
As someone else has said, I think this will work initially because people will still have/want their routines, coupled with a lack of places near to the ground.

However, sadly, and I hope I am wrong, I can't see it being sustained because people's routines will change, and they'll migrate to new places.

The practicalities of the bus won't be great either, I suspect: the proposed Walton Social Club is going to take about 20 minutes, and you won't get close to BMD.

So what time will people leave? The very latest would likely be 2.30pm, but I would say it's likely to be earlier. So when will people need to actually get there?

The good pubs will survive because they will attract clientele on non-match days; those who rely on games, well they can either change or die.

Hopefully, new pubs will open up, or we will find new places to frequent and build those new routines.

Sadly, I think you're right. Even if it does work for a few season, it will probably dwindle quite quickly. The women moving to Goodison will probably provide a little bit of respite, but only a little. Less home games, smaller crowd and different demographics.
I'll be going to the women's games with my partner and 10 year old son. Possibly my 12 year old niece. Not really ideal clientele for most of the pubs.
That said, hope I'm wrong and the pubs are booming and the ladies sell out every home game.
