2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Agree we should always aim for better, but at 12m he would be a solid squad player for relatively low outlay. i don't think there's many players at this price who aren't a risk. At least we have seen he's got something about him and can cope with this league.
Loads on here advocating the re-signing of the overpaid and completely underwhelming dross we have had to suffer on loan or contracted to the club for years because it’s a “squad game”. People presumably also unaware that Alcaraz is able to play deeper in midfield as well. For £12m the worst that happens is you get your money back, I’d say we would make a profit if we bought him and then immediately sold him!

I think he still has some upside. He’s not amazing, but he’s a good player available at a good price who has moments of quality. Those moments we desperately lack outside of Illy and sometimes Dwight when he has time to line one up. If Charly is one of many signings with depth in mind then we’ve done ourselves a favor.

Oh, and if you gathered up all the United rejects now playing elsewhere they’d smash their current team.
I’m not sure we’d see any player in the work come in to our side and be amazing! He’s had hardly any game time, and defo no consistent game time. Under the circumstances I think he’s done really well. His performances will probably be excellent with consistency and coaching.

Can we do better?

We have to stop being so sentimental.
Sentimental about a player that has been here abar 10 games? Not sure I get the thinking behind this at all. That has nothing to do with sentimentality. He is cheap and effective. Rooney, Barkley, Coleman, hell Richy- but sure. We are sentimental about a guy that has just arrived. What?

Andreas Perreira who has 1 more goal & 1 more assist in 3 times as many minutes for a far more attacking team?

That Andreas Perreira at Fulham?

I dont think so.

"Alright" ?

He's been our best attacking player when starting games.
You clearly rate him really highly, I just don’t see why.

Hopefully if he signs he proves you right!

He hasn’t though, that’s the sort of hyperbole we’re all massively prone to because we’ve had to put up with abysmal players for years.

He’s been decent enough, clearly comfortable carrying the ball and strikes a ball ok. Which games are you on about? Arguably Palace away?

I’d say he’s shown enough to be worth the 12m and can see the upside absolutely.

My eyes tell me Pereira is far more effective. As is Christie currently. Same goes for Damsgaard, Eze (obviously), Rutter, Gibbs-White, Rogers - just gone for teams we’d be aspiring to be on par with/above - if we want to improve our league position we need better as a starter IMO.

Depends on how our negative manager sets up.

We should be playing quick counter attacking football, on transition theres not many better than Alcaraz.

This is my point, I think we probably can do better. Should we have those questions about a ‘no brainer’ signing?

Like I said I’d be fine with him adding to the squad as a ‘relatively’ cheap addition. He shouldn’t be the starter in the 10 or as an 8 though. Not if we want to improve on around 13th.

Stinks of Fulham/Bournemouth/Brentford for me. Hope if he signs he proves me wrong as I love the passion he has.

All teams that finished comfortably above us multiple seasons on the run btw.

No doubt better teams, bigger clubs? No chance.

As a squad player, yes absolutely - starter? No thanks.

Not many better than?

Genuinely astounded by comments like this 😂. He’s alright?

Not sure whether this is a case of evertonians just hugely overrating an actual footballer or if you’re just dying on a Thelwell hill.

There is always a player that someone will claim is better than someone and cheaper & better than we have/could buy etc. But find it truly bizarre that some dont like Alcaraz or say he's done nothing etc. If he is used like he should be and he was not half the time. Everyone can see what he brings. He's not even a squad player to me, i would be starting him. He had the 2nd joint most assists for us for one

He would be one of the better players (certainly forward players) in our line up. He is 22, improving and only £12m. We aren’t getting better at that price.

He improves the starting 11 so then the money gets spent in the weaker areas.

Do I want better? Yes, if they are available. Same for every position on the pitch. If there was a GK better than Pickford available to us then I’d say go for it. But only if it was alongside, rather than at the detriment of, strengthening the weakest positions.

And right now, Alcaraz for £12m improves the starting lineup, and doesn’t take a load of funds away from the weakest/priority positions. (RW, RB, ST, CM, another back up FB).

He is the player you play in the early rounds of Cups.Up to now we have played are best players who ,get injured or get some sort of suspension .Or we play someone who is the equivalent of the Finch Farm tea lady.
Ah, I see your knowledge of the english language and footballers are about equal. Interesting.
