What are your 'Mind blown' moments since you've been a blue?

Glen Keeley, should have become a new swear word. I've fortunately forgotten about Per Kroldup.

The 8:0 win against Southampton in 1971 blew my 8 year old mind!

The Keeley derby -

Actually winning the FA Cup in ‘84 - found it hard to believe that after growing up in the 70’s that we’d finally won something!

The FSW - probably the most mind blown I’d ever been as an Evertonian - a nightmare.

The season we finished 4th. 2004/05

The club was all doom and gloom after Rooney's departure and the players we'd signed didn't seem like good additions at the time.
We'd lost Gravesen in that bizarre move to Real Madrid as well.
We'd skirted with relegation the season before and we were odds on for a lot of people to go down.
Got hammered by Arsenal opening game of the season and things were looking bleak.

But then we started winning and winning and winning. Most were smash-and-grab 1-0's, but we were the talk of the Football world for a time.
It did peter out somewhat in the run in, we lost a fair few of our final ten games including a 7-0 shoeing to Arsenal, but we did enough to finish above that lot and gain a Champions League place.

What happened in that CL qualifier stitch-up against Villareal somewhat spoiled things for the following year.
It was clear UEFA didn't want 5 English clubs in the CL (That lot had finished 5th, but won the CL that year)
The fact we drew Villareal was suspect to begin with, then they brought Colina out of retirement to officiate (A lot of people who deny this was a stitch-up often forget that this guy had actually retired and came back for just 1 game, writing off a perfectly good goal, gifting them the momentum and the win, before heading back into retirement again)

It was a surreal time to be a blue to say the least.

Didn't he get a car as sponsorship for that game as well? Or have I dreamt that?

Could be good or bad. Let's be honest, we've had quite a few over the years.

two mind blown moments that stand out for me are when we signed Kanchelskis. i just couldn't believe how good he was. world class.

The other one was a truly awful one, when Moshiri appointed Benitez as manager. i just can't believe how bad a decision that was.
Nothing will ever come close to the appointment of Benitez as our manager, the ignorance towards the fans and collective beligerance of the board will be the biggest embarrasment to have ever happened to the club.

For a club that prides itself on doing the so called right thing, to ignore the fans, the media and history of him and to give him a contract was willfully scuttling the club. The signings, the sackings, the unscrupulous board members are all mistakes that happen at various clubs and are quickly forgotton. To appoint someone who openly mocked the club as he laughed from our very obvious enemy and afterbirth, its embarrassing to even open this wound again.

NOTHING COMES CLOSE.

That first Martinez season when it looked like we had absolutely cracked it. I'll watch highlights now and almost weep for what might have been.

Similarly, when we managed to reel in Ancelotti, and even more so James. Even though he wasn't in his pomp as a player, it was an absolute madness even to be seriously mentioned in the conversation for his signing.

The fact we haven’t won a trophy in so long. Seen so many teams over the years where you scratch your head and wonder how have they done that.

And I think just our general luck. The Villarreal game. FA cup final Chelsea. United Semi final. That horror of a game against Dynamo Kiev. If the Europa league final this year is anything to go by, and how shocking the quality was. You really have to wonder how we haven’t done it.

For all the recent gloom, we did have some very good squads the last 30 years. Different game now to back then but you get Moyes late 0000s team now and they win that Europa league final by a distance.

I get that you create your own, but we’ve had some really good squads that deserved higher in the league and further in the cups.
