Goodison Alehouses: Crofts closed on Sunday. Any others going/gone?

Many of the pubs on Walton Rd get custom for Liverpool games too..... so they might be ok. If the Liverpool Ladies thing takes off, it could provide some footfall for the nearest pubs. If County Rd could go back to what it was 25+ yrs ago, then perhaps it could be self-sustaining, but it's probably too far gone for some of those pubs. The remaining ones could keep the patronage of their local blues by running a bus on matchdays. In fact the club should be encouraging this to keep as many cars off the roads as possible. A lot will then depend on those buses being able to get to and from the place efficiently.

The club won't want to encourage it because it isn't good business for them. If everybody sticks to the same matchday routine the club will miss out on revenue from their additional food and drink outlets at the stadium and new businesses won't open up around the ground because there won't be a call for it. It would be an awful idea from a business perspective.

I know the frost have already told staff they’ll be reducing hours and will basically be relying on away fans now

there are a couple of boozers that have a foot in both camps but I think overall it’ll be fairly brutal .

Agreed

I think the pubs on route to BMD rather than just outside have a real chance to thrive , outside will be chocca and I think a few will just walk inside the walls and that’s obviously what the club will be chasing .

Perhaps, but the other half of the business viability is the transport not being a disaster. The transport plan itself says the site needs at least 60:40 public to private transport to avoid gridlock. There is nowhere near that public transport capacity at the site, which is why the shuttle buses are required. These essentially would be additions to that, helping to keep more cars away from the stadium.

The brick is doing something or has certainly spoken about , think a couple of pubs in town have it in mind

If they can have a matchday bus lane for better access, I think these could really help. Similar for other city districts that do not have direct services to the site.

Need a lot more places open around the new ground for it to be a place to stick around before and after the game.

I can see Dale street becoming the place to be. I'm thinking of making the rose and crown my pre match boozer.
Dale street and the surrounding streets are Certainly the place to have a pub now , even the saddle has leaned into the colours with its new paint job .

Pig and whistle reopened as well .

Even Jurgen's has had a rebrand job. There are dozens of pubs and bars in the surrounding streets..... a 5 min shuttlebus away (if the roads aren't gridlocked).

Said my goodbyes to the Barlow's Arms ( Dark House) on Sunday for probably the last time. Think we have spent the last 18yrs there a really good pub. But are corporate seats await, so we will be in the ground at 12 to get are ale😄
They get RS in and decent number of local regulars .
I go Sundays and it has healthy numbers in there every week.
It will do OK.
Think a few will head back there after the game next season as normal.
