2024/25 Iliman Ndiaye

Do we need a new left back as cover?

Yes

Do we need to spend money for a first choice LB to replace Myko when we literally have no RBs that are worthy of playing in the Premier League and we presumably won't be buying a Forest or Chelsea number of players this summer?

No
Whilst I agree something needs doing at right back. Coleman isn't going anywhere, Jake is comfortable enough there & Patto is still on the books. We only have Myko at left back. I want both positions dealt with.

I love him, makes me want to go and watch us play footy as he’s got skills that get the crowd going. He’s been hot and cold, but all wingers are, especially ones after an injury.

Contrast him to Harrison and Lindstrom, he’s levels above. Did he finish top scorer in the end?
The season hasn't finished!

I think the exact opposite

O'Brien did a pretty good job as a hybrid right back and, if Branthwaite stays, you'd assume him and Tarkowski will be the first choice CB pairing so most of O'Brien's playing time will still come as a right back. Don't get me wrong, I want to sign a new right back as well, but Mykolenko's lack of ability with the ball is one of the major flaws in our approach play - a new starting left back is, to me, a bigger priority than a starting right back (though both should 100% be on the priority list this summer).

Can beat a player take the ball in co gested areas, great control and vision and finds space. Scores goals too. Build around him, another grateful for the chance. Moyes was always good at unearthing loyalty and work ethics and values. More like him please

It has for us. Can’t finish any higher or lower, players will be in Dubai within 12 hours of the final whistle going at the weekend.
But someone will need to be on the pitch on Sunday whether we have something to play for or not.
In theory, one or more of those players could score a goal or two.

Has a good return of goals this season despite being injured for a period. Needs to do what he didn’t Spurs Southampton etc. in the big games that matter. Bang one of them in in a derby or key cup knockout game.

Also worth noting he played in a such team that scored a goal every 4 games as basically a second lb under dychasaurus

Huh?

O'Brien is a centre-half playing RB. By your logic, that's what Myko is. I'd rather get a real RB than upgrade a position that is a luxury for us (which is what upgrading Myko would be)

There also is no certainty Tarkowski will be 100% ready to go next season. We may need JOB to start the season at centre-half

Understand your point, but I'd argue that O'Brien (despite being a 6ft 6 centre back) is much better on the ball than Mykolenko and offers more in that respect from right back than Mykolenko does at left back and I don't disagree that we need a starting right back - but O'Brien will see a fair chunk of game time there next season regardless of who comes in. On the other side of the pitch, I think you have a far greater opinion of what Mykolenko gives us with the ball than I do. I see him (along with Doucoure) as one of the biggest possession/attacking weaknesses we have. An actual attacking left back who can overlap and cross a ball and gives us something in possession would bring more out of Ndiaye as well. I'm not sure what order of priority I'd place on our summer business, but a left back is right near the top of it.

Also no certainty that Tarkowski comes back in. A serious hamstring injury at 32/33 isn't something to be taken lightly and if O'Brien continues to do well at centre half Tarkowski isn't that good a player that he should just stroll back into the side when he's fit.

Edited because I've just noticed what thread it is, Ndiaye has had a really impressive first season and been a breath of fresh air to watch.
