2024/25 Iliman Ndiaye

Biggest thing for him is to improve without the ball.

If he can start running hard off the ball and attacking space he’s all of a sudden a top top player in my eyes.

City shouts are mad though, feel like we always have to overrate our players. Mangala is a good example of this too, people calling for him to be signed off the back of 5/6 decent games - if our fans saw Kovacic play for us live it’d be like we’re watching Alan Ball reincarnated.

We’re so used to mediocrity that the slightest bit of quality and competence gets hyped to the moon.

Really like N’Diaye, doesn’t need the hype and expectation every time he touches the ball.

One thing that was improved on Sunday was his work off the ball, defensively and moving into attacking spaces. I mean, it was against Southampton, but you can only beat what's put in front of you.

Think he’s been great defensively off the ball it’s just when we’ve got it he’s quite easy to play against if he’s up against someone who’s good 1-1 (I think Tete at Fulham absolutely pocketed him for example).

If he starts making runs in behind instead of asking for it to feet all the time he’ll suddenly be a real threat constantly. It will open space for him as well to actually get the ball to feet more if they’re worried about him attacking the space behind them or in between cb and fb.

Has a good return of goals this season despite being injured for a period. Needs to do what he didn’t Spurs Southampton etc. in the big games that matter. Bang one of them in in a derby or key cup knockout game.

To be fair, his goal Sunday was a massive one. It was important to get Goodison rocking given the situation. Once we got the early goal you got the feeling the festivities could really start. Everyone could let out a collective sigh that we wouldn't be sleepwalking to a drab 0-0

Agreed, but we’ve all seen these types of players do it v lower teams at home in the sun when the season is ending. Arteta Pienaar Osman often did the same. Where’s the mazy runs and composed finishes at Anfield or Old Trafford? That’s what we need. Not having a go at Ndiaye, it’s just what we need from players like him to get to the next level.

Will look even better if we can get runners/ability around him.
This. A genuine threat from an attacking left back will take pressure off Ndiaye leaving more space for him to do his thing. Most right backs barely need to worry about Myko taking them on or making forward passes. Be nice if they were forced back or at least made to second guess.

Sounds good in theory, but there's no way we're splashing for a new LB this summer when Myko is passable and our biggest glaring need at the club for about 5 years has been RB. RB and RW

We've been battling relegation for about four years now.

I'll settle for regularly scoring against and beating the lower league teams for now but I get what you're saying.
