Had far worse players than him talked up as borderline club legends. Fully deserves a spot in the EFC Hall of Fame for his crucial contributions over the years including single handedly saving us from oblivion, despite his technical limitations he always gave 100% when he played and his passion for the badge, something many of our players in recent times have lacked, deserves huge respect.

Ultimately though it's probably the right decision for him to move on and hopefully he gets his last big payday in Saudi Arabia to set him and his family up for life.

Thanks for everything Doucs
Azul??? This isnt twitter???

It's worth remembering the energy he brought to the midfield when we really struggled for that (remembering how pedestrian Schneiderlin could be) - he made a big difference to the Ancelotti season too.
Did he??? The 2nd half that season was particularly poor, and I think doucoure players the majority of the games, we had injuries to a few key players, including James

He leaves with my thanks for his efforts. His work rate & love for us was clear & I wish him all the best for his future.

Unfortunately I can't stop there. Some have already said about the important goals he scored that kept us up but I can't help but think about the goals we didnt score. Didn't score because he couldn't make a simple pass or couldn't control the ball. How his lack of quality 30-40 yards out cost us on so many occasions that ultimately put us in those relegation battles in the first place.
The time is right to move on. We absolutely will miss his energy on the pitch though. I can't deny him that.
He can be thanked and reminded of how much of a liability he was in some games, thus pretty much sums up my feelings too.

His game was always about his motor.

In the early years of his contract he would routinely top the PL leaderboard re: km covered per game.

Some of that was recovering from his own mistakes. He never had good positional sense or discipline. He also lacked quality and composure on the ball. He made up for it with sheer commitment and energy. Give him credit, he did have a habit of popping up in useful places, and he could leather the ball.

But now that he's on the wrong side of 30, and the hamstrings are vulnerable, he's not as useful and he's going to get less and less so.

Lampard did him and us a disservice by treating him so shabbily a few years ago. When he was rehabilitated back into the XI he was crucial. But we're doing the right thing now by letting him go (assuming that at the very least we retain Alcaraz and bring in at least one more quality central mid).

Thank you Abdoulaye Doucoure. You should always be greeted with an ovation at BMD.
