2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

People say the same about Ndiaye, the 'flatters to deceive' statements are pure lunacy, more assists than our starting 10 in 14 games, half of them he didn't start.
Plus he was only in his preferred position in one of those games. I’m probably a little too high on him so take it with a pinch of salt, but think through the middle, he’s our immediate Doucoure replacement. If Moyes continues to prioritise ‘work rate’ in the one position that demands finesse next season, I’ll lose patience very quickly.

You would think that would be fundamental for a footballer at any level.. we have lads who can barely control a ball under pressure on £80k a week.

Thats really where Everton have failed miserably for a while. I watch teams like Brentford and its par for the course they have players who can play but also put a shift in. We look at players like doucoure like he's a specialist hard presser.
Other clubs expect that as the bare minimum. We see it as a talent lol.

My only reservation is whether he’s quick enough. He’s got some decent technique but when he doesn’t have the ball I’m not sure he’s got the pace to make an impact with pressing in the way Doucoure does (although he has the opposite problem of offering nothing on the ball)
He's not a like for like replacement for Doucoure. We'll have to sign at least one other central midfielder if Doucoure leaves (and it looks like he is), either as a direct replacement or to allow us to play a different system. For £12-13m I'm struggling to see who we would get that offers more than Alcaraz, but I guess it depends if he is the type of player Moyes wants stylistically. It's only good value of we're going to use him.

We lack physical presence and height in cm area that’s why Doucouré was starting. David will sign younger player with physical presence surely this summer.

Not sure he will be going for the younger players unfortunately. You know he likes premier league experience

Which is the oldest squad in the 2023/24 Premier League season?

As of the start of 2023/24, the oldest playing squad in the Premier League in terms of average player age belongs to West Ham (28.1 years old).

Very much this. I would say not only that but use him centrally too, he’s not a wide player and if that’s where we’re going to use him then we probably can do better for the money.

This is a major worry for me. We've finally got on an even keel financially, I don't want loads of old fellas on big wages again.

Our squad isn't that old really but the average age is totally skewed by a number of players... a lot of whom will probably leave this summer or next.
Gueye, Doucoure, Coleman, Keane and Young have really pushed up the average age of the squad.

It's more about who's coming in. I'm pleased that a lot of the old guard are headed out but if they then get replaced by Soucek, Coufal and some people are even advocating for Vardy then we solve nothing. Moyes has always been a fan of experience over promise, in my opinion.

@Eggs will be along soon to tell us that Moyes gave Rooney his debut to rebut this any minute now.

That’s fine, but there’s no reason why we can’t have creativity and height. I’d suggest having a physical presence is more important in the ‘deep’ midfield to go with Gueye than have it behind the striker…

Garner hasn’t been exceptional this season, Tim has shown glances but needs consistency. We need a physical CM for sure, I just don’t want that in place of a 10. We need both on the pitch, not one in the other’s spot

I think we should be looking at a higher standard. Yes he would be cheap. And being an evertonian I realize just the price alone means we will probably buy him. Minus 1 assist he hasn't impressed me at all.

What higher standard player that’s available for £12m should we be looking at?

I think he’s very good and hope we buy him.

We need a new starting CM, a tall one with strength to play along side Gana. Garner is not the solution. Alcaraz could be playing in the left to learn his trade.
