2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Today’s peformance was simply confirmation as to why he ‘hopefully’ won’t get a new contract offer. We’ve moved on from relegation scraps, we need a better profile of player now, someone more capable of passing a ball. I wish him well but he absolutely MUST go.
I think if you watched him leave the pitch you have your answer anyway.

…we won today with him starting, we didn’t against Ipswich when he wasn’t available.

We can all see how dreadfully poor he is in possession but there’s no doubt we’re more effective when he plays. We clearly need to move on from him but it’s not as simple as playing Alcaraz instead of him, the whole squad/team needs a re-set.

Hard to complain about the effort he has made since he's been a blue. The ball sitting period was clearly a reflection of the relationship with Frank. Stepped up with some big goals at times and can be a handful but he is limited. Today he was the weak link in a number of attacks.

You always say this but he's played loads of times when we've lost. Correlation does not automatically equal causation.

I’m not sure Alcaraz is quick enough. The one thing Doucoure has going for him is he has the pace to get around the pitch. We need to move away from either or players. We need players who can cover ground and also handle the ball properly.

…of course he has but we don’t do well without him.

A manager like Moyes is in the points business, he generally selects Doucoure and chooses between Ndiaye and Alcaraz. He does that because he thinks it’s his best chance of winning. Seems odd to non-professionals like us but he clearly has a strong view that Doucoure is important for the balance of this team.

Not so important that he's being offered a new contract on terms that he deems acceptable, apparently. I'll be glad to see the back of him. Today we had three or four promising counter attacks that all broke down due to his truly dreadful use of the football. The onus now is to find a player with Doucoure's positive attribute but that also can hold on to a football and can pass a football.

It's generally down to athleticism. He's the only player in the squad with that skillset - covers ground, has an engine over 90mins, awkward to play against.

Don't think it's about replacing him with Alcaraz, he's a completely different player and more of a classic number 10.

If you want to play Alcaraz, imo you extend Gana's contract whilst upgrading Gana's role with a box to box player.

Onana looked like he was going to be that but was and still is too inconsistent. Tim has potential but needs someone bringing in
